Late season doe kill
Finally got to the computer to post this kill which took place on 12.30.06.On that day I was on a mission to do some doe herd reduction. It was 1630 hrs. on that day when I saw 5 slickheads heading up the ridge towards my stand;3 mature does and 2 skippers. As they got to about 45 yards they suddenly became very skittish and turned around and started walking back towards where they came from, constantly checking the wind with their noses held high in the air(I think the distant squirrels were making them jittery). As they reached a distance of about 60 yards or so,I doe bleated and they turned and started heading back in my direction. The biggest of the bunch then made the fatal mistake of closing the distance to 10 yards, where I proceeded to launch an arrow through its vitals. The doe ran 45 yards and dropped stone dead. The shot was a complete pass through;with the arrow taking out both lungs and the top of the heart.Total time from the shot to the deer dropping was all of 5 seconds. It was a perfect 10 ring shot. The doe dressed out at 120 lbs.I shot the deer with my Pearson Steath,70 lbs @29 "shooting a 366 grain Carbon Express 250 maxima hunter shaft tipped with a 100 grain Wac'em broadhead.Arrow speed is 291 fps. ![]() |
