draw poundage

how long should you be able to hold your bow at full draw before you start to shake?? i know everyone says pull back what is comfortable but i am a big fella and can pull back a lot, but shooting yesterday i noticed after about 18 seconds or so i started to shake and it was hard to keep the pin on the target.. is there any set rule on this that you guys go by?

I've always shot at 70# but Iknowthat Istay at full draw for 1 minute without shaking. I would draw whatever poundage that you comfortable with and can practice with.

You want to know the truth I've never timed myself as to how long I can hold the bow. I just know I can. I do it the same as many good shooters. I draw, anchor and start aiming. After that it is between 4 and 5 seconds the shot goes off. If it takes longer than that then the mental process breaks down. That's when I let down and start all over again. I'm not into the muscles and macho game as much as the mental thing.

When you start shaking then the mind starts to wander. You're concsiously thinking about holding the bow back and not about aiming. When aiming that's all you should be thinking about. The rest just happens.

Frankly 1 minute is rediculous.

This year I was drawn on my deer for 2 mins before I could shoot, and I couldn't let my draw down because the buck was looking dead at me. He didn't move, just stared. I was okay for the first minute and a half but after that it got tough. When the time for the shot came I took a few big breaths, calmed my nerves and focused on what I had to do and it all came together.

It should be 1 min. I can maybe hold mine that long but I might start shaking. Don't over do the draw weight. It's just macho crap.

thanks guys...i don't try to overdue the weight, i just pull back what i fell comfortable at.. i am a finger shooter and to hold a bow for one minute seems way long...i hunt from the ground in CA, all of the bucks i have drawn on i usually get sighted in and release, but yesterday i was just seeing how long i could hold it just in case....

thanks for all the good advice!
:D
