Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
It was early. The sun was just coming up. There was alot of deer movement throughout the no-shoot hours. I saw a large bodied buck about 70 yards away slowly walk out of my grasp.
I was calling it a day at about 9am. and was walking the fenceline when i saw a golden glimer in the grass. I knew exactly what it was, a big golden male!!! I krept slowly, his back was facing me and I shot through the thickets and long grass. I could hear my arrow break as soon as it hit the brush. Slightly disappointed i walked toward the brush which was about 30 yards away and found my arrow with feathers. I figured man I must have been alot closer to the bird than i thought. WhenI spotted thefloundering large pheasant with half of my arrow in his back So I went to claim my prize, What a morning! Here he is! [hr] Anyone else shoot small game with bows? I'd like to see pics if you have em'????? ![]() ![]() |

Consider yourself lucky to have an abundance of pheasants.
Congrats and the food looks great!:D |
RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
I haven't for a few years but I used to.We don't have them in the wild so we have to go to a game farm.
I would use a recurve and flu-flu's.I have shot a few but none flying,I did, however, get a quail while in flight.:D Pheasant is some absolutely wonderful meat.[8D] |
RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
Earlier this year I was walking to my tree stand when I came to a small thirty yard opening where a large grouse was feeding about twenty yards away. I zipped a perfect shot right threw it. Put my arrow back into the quiver and gutted the grouse. I can't believe the excitement I got from such a small bird! lol.

Nice shot and good looking dinner!

RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
Very cool! I never killed a pheasant with a bow but have killed tons of squirrels, a few rabbits, a huge possum last bow season, and a few woodchucks including one that was a lasered 76 yards with my field archery rig. [8D]

I enjoy hunting small game with my bow, I've taken rabbits and squirrels. I've also taken a coyote with my bow.
I really want to goose hunt with my bow, just have to find the time. Its kind of hard to justify hunting a goose over a whitetail. The later tends to fill the freezer up quicker. Nice job |
RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
Congrats...I would love to go phesant hunting one day...
|
RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
I've tried for squirrels once or twice. I've never tried for anything else. That is an accomplishment!

RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
I shot one when I was 14 with a judo point. Huge mistake. The rooster flew away with my arrow stuck in his breast. I was sick about not killing it. I ended up findind it 2 days later with my German Shorthair and it was alive with the arrow still in him. Glad I found it so I could put it out of its misery.

RE: Pheasant this morning!Pics too!
I took my first pheasent with a bow this year right out of my stand, it was about a 25 yard shot from the woods where my stand was to the field edge where he was! Sounds kind of wierd to get excited about it, but it's very cool.
