Missed.......(**Pics now**)

the UPS guy today. [:@]

I found a slip for a missed delivery from Walla Walla on my door tonight. I already called UPS and had it rerouted to stay at the UPS hub so I can pick it up for a little smackdown roadtrip this weekend. I will be there to pick up my new toy at 9am sharp when they open. I will post more tomorrow when I get a chance to look it over and grope it for a while..........[8D]

Well we're all expecting pictures! And be gentle on the groping part, carressing may be more appropriate here buddy! You want this relationship to last... don't move too quickly. Also buy her some nice accessories, make her look pretty too.:D:D

RE: Missed.......

Alright guys.....I went and got it this morning.

First impression........this bow is absolutely gorgeous. It's a new Martin Scepter 4 with the longer elite limbs, and new furious X cams in chameleon color. Specs on this bow are 43" ata, and 8" brace height. It will end up around 55lbs draw and 30.5". This one is going to be setup as my indoor specific bow and once summer rolls around it will be used for field archery and FITA as well. The grip is very similar to that of the Apex 7 with a slightly higher wrist. The color of the bow is by far the best target color bow I have ever seen, this finish is really that nice. It is very similar in quality to the Bowtech chrome target colors, but the colors on this thing change. It's amazing.........

Unfortunately I did bring my camera but no USB cord to upload pics to my PC to share. APAJaws and I are headed out to hang with the guys at Copper John/Stan for the weekend and shoot for a bit, hopefully they will have a draw board so I can get the draw length on this perfect and then I can get it timed and hopefully some shots on it to settle the string/cables and then hopefully get it fully setup next week. When I get back I will update with pics and a full review of my first impressions.

It is so difficult to get the lighting right to do this color justice. It is quite simply stunning to look at, it changes from yellows to greens to purples to blues when moved. It's not completely setup quite yet, I am still messing with stabilizers, weights, draw length, and timing to get things where I want them exactly. I hope to get a set of gibblet strings soon too probably in flour green/purple color.

Here are a few pics to look at anyhow.......

Dude, that is absolutely.......GORGEOUS!! Is that like Chromillusion paint or something?? Simply amazing.

I know it's for target shooting, so speed isn't important, but how fast is she?

This one is supposed to be around 305 or so IBO speed, not that fast. My second custom bow should be delivered to our local Martin rep any day now and that one is on the same color Scepter 4 riser with the shorter Mag limbs and a nitrous C base cam with the X cable system, that one will be about 38" ata and 7.5" brace height and an honest 320+fps IBO. That will be a 3D specific bow...........

Very pretty bow, Rick. I've just never been a fan of those fluorescent-colored strings (I still cringe watching the Primos gang with their bows ), but I think it'd look better on that bow than anything else I've seen so far.

I know nothing of the bow.... but dang it's a slim sleek looking rascal. With those dimensions and riser it's go to be a shooter. Am I missing something(cable guard) or is this a shoot through design?

Rick James 12-31-2006 09:17 PM

RE: Missed.......(**Pics now**)

Thanks guys. I do love the bow, I hope it shoots as good as it looks.

David: Yes, it is a shoot thru cable system. These are the new furious X cams with 65% letoff mods.

RE: Missed.......(**Pics now**)

Thanks again guys. This one is going to be a shooter.....

Lucky for me (still setting scratch scores for multiple leagues) I am still working some tuning things out with my new toy that are definitely affecting my scores right now.I have a set of string/cables on the way from Gibblet and a lighter set of limbs because the bow bottomed out much higher than I expected. I expect it to bottom out with the new limbs between 52-56lbs. I don't want to shoot it with any more than 1/2 a turn taken out. Right now with 2 full turns taken out it sits at 59lbs.

The string/cables are affecting me with lots of high/lows right now becausethey are still settling and it affects the timing every 30-40 shots. I can't really creep tune the bow because they are still settling and I can't get the timing to stay perfect quite yet. When I do get it timed I can say I have cleaned 15-20 vegas 10 rings in a row with it already before it creeps again and the wall will soften up and my shots start going high/low. I will say that this bow holds better than anything I have had in the past, the valley is perfect, the back wall is exactly what I am looking for (when it is in time), and I am excited for the new limbs and string/cables to be here so I can work these final things out. Initial tune on a dual cam bow is a PITA but man do I love the level nock travel, when creep tuned if I get timid on a shot and execute from a different spot in the valley it should still hit the X. This will be nice.

The bow definitely holds better than my A7 did though, I don't know if it's because of the bow, because I have the stabilizers and balance perfectly neutral, or because I have tweaked the draw length to a better position than what the A7 was at (most likely),but I can honestly hold on a 5 spot X for the entire shot execution right now from a full 20 yards. I had very slow sight picture movement with the A7 but it didn't hold like this and just stop where it was supposed to. I also have the wide axles in right now to clear the fat 30X pros but I am planning to refletch these from blazers to a low profile 4" bohning X vane tonight and may put the narrow axles in again. Not sure, the wide ones clear my arm but I don't know what I will do with this.

It's going to be another 1-2 weeks before I have everything dialed in right and then I expect to see some fantastic scores coming..........

No worries........the stabilizer and lens don't really make that big of a difference. Last summer in June when I was conditioned well and had time to shoot enough I actually shot a 299 44X 5 spot target with my 70lb Apex 7 using a pins sight and short stabilizer..........from 30 yards. ;)

Most guys notice maybe a 1-2 point difference between an open class setup like my Scepter 4 and a higher poundage hunting type pin sight bow with a short stabilizer if it is known distance.

RE: Missed.......

Well A few updates.............

I called Jake up at Martin and had him send me different limbs. The original limbs just felt like too much for me and I had to take 4x full turns out of them to get them to where I felt comfortable.I hate taking this many turns out of limbs especially for a bow that will be shot out to 90 meters so I had a set of limbs sent to me that top out at 52lbs. The bow has been setup with these since last week Thurs and it feels great and I don't fatigue as much when shooting for extended periods. Even at 52lbs, I should still get the speed I need forFITA to make 90 meters out ofthe GT UL Pro 400's I plan to use.

Today my string/cables also came in from John (Gibblet). I have to shoot my local vegas league tonight but when I am done with that I will get theseinstalled and then try to put a few shots on them so they settle. Once these have settled and I can retime the bow I will tweak DL a bit to get things perfect and creep tune the bow so my timid shots still hit the X..............then it should be in it's final state of tune.Next week this time it should be all done and I can't wait to stop thinking about tuning and just about shooting.

I will post pics tonight of the new string/cable setup, the colors are just a bit flashy...........my hope is that the other shooters on the line at league night will be blinded by the string/cable colors and then I win by default. [8D]

Man that is a nice bow. I like martin bows. My first indoor bow was a cougar magnum, it shot great. Congrats.

I can say after tonights tuning session the bow is finally where it needs to be. The new string/cables from gibblet are all settled, the stabilizers are perfect, the DL is perfect for vegas face targets...........just time to shoot it now.

Here are final pics with the new strings and final stabilizer setup.
