Why the broken tines?? Taking to many buck?
 

We have been hunting on 50 arces in ny for the past 3 years. In that time we have taken 13 buck. Seven have had busted tines four had 3 or more tines broken. Whats the reason for this?
Are we harvesting too many buck on my land? This year we took 6 on my property? Four the previous year and 3 the year before that. I am getting a little nervious? In the 3 years we have taken 13 doe and 6 button buck. What do you think??? Oh, all of the six buck we took this year we a 6 point or better.

maybe it's a diet deficiency. but most likely from fighting. it happens. probably a big one tearing them up. the bruisers break there racks and kick their butts plain and simple. I know where there's a slammer buck and any of the bucks who dare to tangle with him get busted up some. One deer i shot and had mounted had a messed up skull plate like it had been fractured and a couple of broken points. You probably got a real bruiser running around. also...look for puncture wounds on the face and around the eyes of deer you take. My deer had a battle scar on it's face.

pretty even buck to doe ratio will cause alot of HARD CORE fighting, if there are several mature bucks confined they will fight hard, younger bucks tend to submit and will likely come out ok, but a mature fighting machine will stay in the fight. If there is a high doe count this usually will not happen as often as there are many does to breed, but if is close to equal they will fight for the breeding rights. ~Ben

Sounds more like you're right in the middle of a travel corridor to me. That's a lot of buck to be killing in a 50 acre track each year. If you count the buttons you've taken 19 in 3 years. That's one healthy number of deer. You must be at the corner of "Walk" and "Don't Walk". Lots of hardcore fighting it sounds like maybe with some nutritional shortcomings.
