First Deer with bow

I finally did it. After bowhunting for 4 years I was finally successful on a deer. I shot an 85 lb doe last night. She came in 5:30 and was very spooky. After about 10 or 15 minutes she offered a broadside shot at 35 yards. Complete passthrough at the back of the shoulders, and she only ran 30 yards...that Stinger 4-blade worked perfectly. Whilenot a wall hanger, this doe means more to me than any of my rifle killed bucks. The adrenaline rush was out of this world. Man I love bowhunting. A day late but Santa was sure good to me!!!

Congrates on your first deer. My first deer with a bow was a doe too.

It took me several years gun hunting before I was successful, but after that I got one every year. Hopefully the same will be true with archery. The bloodtrail from this doe was adequate, but a little disappointing. However, I hit her pretty far forward and only passed through one lung lobe. Thanks for all the comments. Did I say I love bowhunting...lol??

Yes, the feeling was great. I doubt fancy drugs would ahve made me feel better...lol. I'm almost tempted to sell my rifles and commit entirely to archery.

I shot her in Pottowatomie County, about 1.5 miles from my house. Are you in Ok too?

While the Stinger 4-blade did good, I do wonder if the Slick Trick might have produced a better bolld trail. I think I might try them next.

Congrats I have yet to try Bowhunting but I really want to try now. I shot my first deer this year so I can sort of relate to the feeling.

I have shot several deer by rifle and black powder, but the feeling from them can't be compared to shooting one with a bow, not even the first deer I shot. 15 minutes after shooting this doe I was still shaking. It was awesome.

dwd2001, Do you find Slick Tricks give much better blood trails than Stingers 4-blades?

Yes I did find the ST's provided better blood trails, but all the deer I killed with stingers were just as dead so I can't knock them.

Good feeling deep inside, right? I know how you feel. I outsmarted a big doe and shot her with the bow this year. She means as much to meas any buck I'll shoot. Congrats.

Dag, what time was legal shooting time until? Came in @ 5:30 and 10 -15 min. later offered a shot? that leaves it 5:40. Here 5:40 you can't see the hand in front of your face. Or do you not do dalight savings time?

Rack tracker,

You are farther north than me by a good margin, so I have longer days than where you're at. In Oklahoma you can shoot 30 minutes past official sunset, which at this locatation and day was 5:23, allowing me to shoot until 5:53. Yes, I was puching it a little, but I was still legal. Just as importantly, I was also ethical. I was in a clearing so there were no trees to block out the light, as was the doe I shot. Also, my impact archery cosmic sight really draws in the light.

I am with you. My first deer was a doe as well & it was just as good as a buck. She was graceful & provided me with a great first hunt & shot. She also took it easy on me for my first dressing as well! Congrats & enjoy the ones to come.
