What kind of rest should I buy?

I just got a new bow and was wanting to try a different rest. I have been using a wb and i like it. Most of my friends use fall aways and they really like them to.So i guess I am asking everyones opinion of what rests they like. The more info. the better.

fall away's are good for target shooting and competition.. use the WB for hunting so your arrow is secure and will not fall around or off the rest.

you can not go wrong with a trophy taker. I have used 2 different models the past 4 years and they really work well. I would reccomend the trophy taker shaky hunter for hunting. The rest has a wider groove and is a bit deeper allowing the rest to securely hold your arrow in every situation you will encounter when out in the woods.

hope this helps ;)

Use the one that fits you best. If you shoot a lot of leagues or tournaments, I would go with a drop away. If you use your bow for primarily hunting, I would go with a wb.

If you are happy with your WB keep using it. I personally don't care for them, but it doesn't mean they are a bad rest. Any rest will work well if properly set up.

I would say it really depends on your application and type of arrows you will use. None of them are really more accurate than the other if set up right.

Iwent shopping for a restafter trying my sons' wb. I found thisand like it better than a wb for sure. I have only put about 200 arrows through it so I can't report on whether it has unforeseen problems or not.

using the one that fits you best would be a good suggestion if you were familiar with each rest and knew how they worked, however to save you time and money like i suggested before you can not go wrong with the trophytaker shaky hunter for hunting conditions.

The Ripcord dropaway is fully contained and the rest can be manually put in the upright position without drawing the bow. Other rests may be this way but this is the only one I am familiar with. You might give it a look as well.

They are all good. Just buy the one you like and you can come on the forum and proclaim it is the best of them all.

I have a trophy taker, Dont like it. Rest shoots well but makes to much noise when arm falls.

arrowmike,

you can eliminate that problem by applying felt on the back of the rest so that when it falls, it does not make the noise.

For all of you that shoot Whisker Biscuits.....what does this do to the fletchings on your arrows?

It depends on what type of fletching you utilize. I had a WB on two of my bows.....and it warped the vanes pretty badly (ESPECIALLY quick spins). Blazers....not so bad.

I switched to the QAD Ultra (like germ mentioned). I can flip up the rest arm on stand without having to draw the bow. It' s a full containment rest....so I don't lose anything in that capaciy......and I don't have to worry (either with cause or without) about fletching contact.

Neck.. or Jim...

I have found great accuracy with little or NO wear and tear on my fletching while shooting Blazers.

I shoot the WB and have for the past three seasons now and despite some opposing arguments I have been very successful. The WB suits my style of hunting and I admit is not for everyone. I hunt from the ground often when I need too and the WB helps my arrow to stay in position when I am out of position. It 'helped' me take a nice 3 1/2 yr. old this past fall on a stalk.

Hunt with what you have confidence in...

Duke:

That's a great review. The ONLY reason.....and I've been through the ringer on this one.......I switched from a WB.....is due, really, to the arrows I shoot, I guess. When my Radial X-Weaves (Carbon Force) are drawn across the black bristles.....they make a noise. It's discernable.....by me and ESPECIALLY (hint-hint) by those entities that hear better than I. If I utilized different arrows????? Who knows? I don't. I do know that my son's friend had some arrows that felt "coated" and they made NO noise in the WB.

I just switched because I wasn't willing to switch arrows. Your reasoning makes perfect sense, for you.

BTW.....Happy New Year, teammate, and congrats again on an outstanding year.

Another vote for the WB.I like the simplicity of it.

I also use Blazers and have no problem with warping.

RE: What kind of rest should I buy?

Thanks Jeff... Happy New Year to you and yours too.;) Especially your wife.

I shoot aluminum still. Every year I think about switching to the carbon. Every year I don't. Their is still little noise when I draw, but it's never been a problem. In fact.. at that point it's too late..:D

Why switch from the Whisker Biscuit? It's hard to beat simple. You will never drop an arrow off of the rest and you can set your bow on your lap. I will never switch myself.

outdoorslover 12-28-2006 03:36 PM

RE: What kind of rest should I buy?

By the way, it used to warp my fletching but it doesn't anymore. I switched to the new kind and it doesn't seem to affect them anymore. Don't ask me why. It must be the new bristles.
