Im a new bowhunter, but not new to archery. I'm not familiar with the different types of hunting bows and uses. I look forward to talking with you guys and picking up on some tactics.

RE: Beginner Bow Hunter
How does one answer this request in a few words?? Spend all of the time that you can in the field, with or without a weapon. Observe what all animals are doing, not just your quarry. What is the wind doing and how do various animals react to changes. Study the weather, presence/absence of fronts. Be aware of the terrain and how it causes animals to travel. Unless pressed, deer will usually travel along the path of least resistance. Terrain that affects and directs line of travel are called funnels. If your in snow country late winter is a good time to look for them because they become stand out. Recognize feeding areas, bedding areas and how deer use them. The list goes on and on.
Others in this forum have, by far, a more complete knowledge of equipment. I can only offer the advice above. It's a lot easier to go out and kill a deer than to become an accomplished bowhunter. It really does take time and effort but it's great fun,and learning through mistakes isthe norm. Good luck. laxdad |
