I Still Can't Believe It!

Sherman - set the way back machine to 10/29/02.

My 17 year old nephew arrows a nice buck around 7:30 am. Although we knew the hit was high, we started tracking the buck immediately because of the heavy rain. We spent 6 hours the first day and 4 hours the following day attempting to find the deer. We never found him. My nephew is devistated.

Sherman - set the way back machine to 11/23/02

This past weekend my family and I went out for the first weekend of the deer shotgun season. Saturday morning my brother-in-law shot a nice 9 pointer. My nephew said "boy that buck sure looks like the one I shot during bow season a few weeks ago."

We all just looked at each other thinking "yeah right." Well after checking him in we took him home and started butchering him. I immediately saw the infection near the top of the back loin. I asked my father-in-law what do you think caused this? I looked closer and found 4 - 5 inches of an aluminum camo shaft with a 125 gr. Muzzy broadhead attached. The arrow just missed the deer's spine and didn't go deep enough (apparently) to do any major damage to the vitals.

I showed the shaft and broadhead to my nephew and said "look familiar?" Sure enough it was his. How we knew for sure was - before he even inspected the broadhead - my nephew said "see if the broadhead's o ring is missing. I lost my o ring and it had a slight gap between the blades and the shaft. The broadhead had a missing o ring.

So - my nephew's depression for wounding a nice 9 point buck is alleviated when his father kills the same buck during shotgun season. I wonder what the odds are on that?

He is fortunate to know the fate of his deer. Many times people are left wondering what ever became of it.
