Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Got this off one of my cameras last week.

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
THat looks like quite the infection. Did you show it to your local DNR and see what they thought?
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Holy Cow! Do you think it is a weapon wound or a animal predator?
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
i have seen this kind of wound before..if you look at it closely theres a horizontal line on each side of the cut ,when a broad head barely passes by one blade can slice her just enough that it will lay open a wound just like that ,,just a bad shot by a bow hunter.probably.she will heal...

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
That's one hell of an infection
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Actually I don't think it looks all that infected. It's not grossly colored is it? I'm betting she heals over. One buck I have mounted, I call cripple buck because his femur bone stuck out of his back leg at the joint and was scared terribly along that leg (assuming car accident)...was healed over quite nicely.
Let's hope she makes it, she looks healthy otherwise. |
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Yea, id say arrow.I hope lots of newbees to bowhunting see that because if you dont wait for a broadside shot, thats what happens. Some guys will set up ground blinds so close to a run that they picture a 3 foot shot. Then the guy gets antsy and takes a head on shot.Back off from the run,and give yourself a comfort zone,so you dont have to worry so much about being busted. You will get the shot you want, and being more confident will also improve your shooting.
Thanks for sharing!! |
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
The deer looks healthy(except for the scar). Hopefully it will completely heal over and make it through the winter...
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
I'd say that's most likely a hunter inflicted wound but it could just as easily be a bullet that cut that straight line in the hide. Because it's wide open and in reach s she can keep it clean by licking it,I'd say that infection risk is low and that the deer will survive.

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
huh. Hope she makes it. I have seen deer with worse get by.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Nasty wound, but clean, she might make it. Nice Pics.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
man thats ugly. They are tough animals though. She'll prolly make it.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Sorry, but with an open wound that large, I'd be surprized it she made it.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
I think it is not infected, it looks like it is dry(not full of puss which would be bad0, so it is healing. I see the horozontal line also....hmm judging by that angle looks like a real idiot shooting[:@] if it was a bow, although might have been a gun from strait on, hopefully not attempting a 'texas heart shot' ...I am sure the deer will be fine as long as the winter isnt too hard, just a flesh wound even though pretty large.

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
ShadowAce, hopefully you can keep capturing her and keep us updated on the progress.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
I think she has a chance to make it - it sure looks like a bullet wound to me.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
How do you explain the messed up hair on the other side of her body?
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
if you look at the dates...the pic on 11/24 at 901 am shows the middle of the scar "scabbing" some what...then look at the picture two days later on 11/26 at 1151 the area is very inflamed and red..that is not a good sign..she may make it, but it really depends on weather and conditions of the area she is in.

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
NO MANS LAND!!! :)
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Man, Thats a huge cut
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Another ideal could be go in that stand shoot her and get some fresh tender venision. Im sure she doesnt have any gangreen going on and then you dont have to worry about the what if it gets infected and she slowing dies. That is asumeing you have a doe tag and what not. just my two cents.
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Thats a very large open wound. If she lives That`s going to leave one nasty scare. I am sure there a few deer running around out there with bad cuts and such this time of yr "you just happen to have a pic of one"[&:]

RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
She will make it. That is actually a very clean wound and looks good. The pink color of the tissue indicates that it is healthy. It is granulation tissue, the tissue that fills in before the skin contracts over it. The black area in the center is a little necrotic but not draining so the black will slough off and have healthy stuff underneath it.
The presence of that much granulation tissue would indicate that the wound is likely 2-3 weeks old. The deer is not skinny and appears healthy otherwise. 2-3 weeks with a deep infected wound and she would have lost considerable weight and look poor by now. 2 months from now you will be hard pressed to tell it was there. |
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
That doesn't look infected to me i say she will survive but end up with a nasty scar on her side .It could be from a wire fence slicing her open
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
Thats CRAZY!! i hope its not hurting her
|
RE: Trail cam pic: Deer with crater missing
I always thought the deer might die of infection.
