It's common. A deer's color will vary from deer to deer. I have seen many deer without a throut patch.

My brother in law has a 12 pointer mounted whose throat patch is almost non existent. Still a nice mount but I feel it woulda looked better with somewhat of a throat patch.

That's interesting...I notice unusual things about the deer I see/skin out all the time. I mounted a buck last night that had a really blonde forehead, it was so pretty. A button buck Iskinned out this season had a lot of extra white on the nose, so I saved the cape. I shot a doe this rifle season with a really black tail....She was a normal deer but the top of her tail was almost jet black.

Deer are like people, every one is different.

Back in 02 I shot a six point that had a red patch on his head, and my father shot a spike that had blond streaks on it's head. The neat thing was that both deer were shot out of the same blind a day apart. It goes to show that every deer is a little different.

I see what u guys mean though, cause I've seen a lot of deer with different stuff going on with their coloration. Yesterday I shot a doe who had a lot of black on her chest, and one heck of a lot of black on top of her tail. I guess they're just all different.

Im going to say uncommon. I have never seen one without a throat patch in all my years in the deer woods. matter of fact i have never seen one with double patches but know people who have killed a few. By the way SB, what state are from? i have been wondering that.
Dan ps: nice looking buck
