How would you handle this?
I Like deer antlers. I have every rack from all of the bucks I've shot (38). I have 11 shoulder mounts and 6 at the taxidermists. Plural because my last buck went to a new guy. Here's the problem... a buddy of mine( so I thought), has mounted 8 of my bucks. A couple of years ago he lost his job and got divorced. At the time he had 2 of my heads and after the season I brought him 2 more plus a 150" 12 pt my other friend killed with his truck. That guy don't hunt but he wanted it mounted. Then I brought him another one from the next season. So this guy has 6 heads of mine and never finishs his work. He don't return my calls and now his number is not in service. Oh, I paid for 4 of them and the 12 pt also. 5 heads paid for in advance to try and help this guy out. He's doing ok, new job and still living there. I believe he's out partying a lot instead of taking care of bussiness. How would you handle this?

RE: How would you handle this?
Greg, watching your posts I think your alot like me, I know I'm sorry but personally, I'd be knocking on his door and have a man to man. What other way is there at this point until you get the law involved and then no one is a winner.

RE: How would you handle this?
go to his house and talk to him friendly, my taxidemist is dedicated and gets our mounts done quickly we took one to him in the middle of october one time and it was done by the end of december. He gets really into it and will work all night sometimes, and does an excellent job

I know that Rob. I guess that the important thing is to get the antlers and capes back. I'll get them done somewhere else. The money partis a bit hard to swallow though. Over 1K.

RE: How would you handle this?
Its a pain in the butt, butI would take him to small claims court. Often times the summons is enough to get someone moving.
|
RE: How would you handle this?
Before going to court, I would talk to him and ask for the heads & capes, and the money back. Give him a chance to give it to you. If he says no, then it is small claims court time.
I know it sucks, but you obviously think more of him than he does of you. God Bless |
RE: How would you handle this?
No, small claims doesn't suck. It's quite easy and it our system we believe in in this country. I would talk with him and ask for everything back. I wouldn't mention court to him, I would only insist on everything back. If he says no or misses the deadline, file the paper work. You can serve him or have the sheriff do it for a nominal fee. Once you win, there is were it gets harder. He has time to pay or not pay. If he chooses not to pay, you must go back to court and get another court order to get it from the bank, paycheck or other means. Check you local laws and see what the procedure is. Your county clerks are more then willing to explain the process to you.
The worst thing I had to deal with was my county court only excepts cash. Of all places, who would ever want to bounce a check? |

RE: How would you handle this?
I won't give you advice because every time I'm in a situation simular to yours I wind up in the black bar hotel. Hope you get your racks back Greg, I would be steaming too.

RE: How would you handle this?
Talk first, then small claims court, at that point he'll be an ex-friend.
|
RE: How would you handle this?
I too would have a face to face talk with him. If you paid for some of the mounts, he should complete the work or give them back with your money. The ones you didn't pay for yet I would suggest to just get them back. This way he won't have such a work load (from you) and you stand a better chance of getting the ones you did pay for completed.
I'd be more than happy to assist you in getting your money and mounts back.;) |

RE: How would you handle this?
Thanks for all of your responses. I am going to talk to him ONE more time and see what happens. Also thanks to BigJ12 and Rob for their offers, I think I'll hold off on that for a while. As Motownhonkey said, when I try stuff like that, black bar hotel here I come!

RE: How would you handle this?
Looks like my hole post got deleted? Better go check my in box for nasty letter! and reed the rules again!
|
RE: How would you handle this?
Man just go ask him for all your stuff and money or give him a deadline to start giving your money and mounts back either or maybe 3 mounts and part or the money that he couldn't work on.
just my 5c. |
RE: How would you handle this?
I don't care who they are or what their problems are. If you pay in advance you're usually going to get screwed. And when someone already has a couple of my deer and hasn't gotten them back to me..... I sure wouldn't take him any more. That said, I'd go have a big conversation face to face with an expected date of completion that's satisfactory or we're going to small claims court. I'd also like to see my horns at that time to make sure he's still got them. Big horns bring big bucks with decorators these days. He could have sold them. When you mix business with charity orpity or help, it usually ends up a gift.

RE: How would you handle this?
I'd make a visit to his house and have a heart 2 heart w/ him and see if you can work this out....Whether that means him getting his ass in gear and finishing his obligations to you and your friend or getting your money and heads back....Good Luck Greg!!! Not a easy situation anyway you look at it....Friendship aside buisness is buisness and you go messin w/a hardcore deer hunters horns and your in trouble....;)
