Successful Bow hunt for 2002
 

Hello Everyone:

Like many here, I have had a successful Archery Season here in the northwoods of Wisconsin. On Sunday November 10th at 7:04 am a beautiful 10 pointer decided to take a walk 25 yards behind where I was sitting. I had heard a squirrel just 15 minutes before behind me and I didn't think much about it when I started to hear noise again. Actually I was thinking about the large cup of coffee I was going to have when I got down out of my stand later that morning. Well from start to finish, I had about 15 seconds to see him, get my bow, draw back and take a wonder double lung shot on this nice animal. The arrow passed thru and the buck didn't even really know what happened, he just ran off at a startled pace and died 60 yards from where I shot him.
I have learned in my 15 years of hunting, that you can put yourself in a good area, and do all the planning you can think of and still not see any animals, but then just like that when you least expect it, there they are walking right to you. This is what I truly love about bowhunting, you just never know what is going to happen.

" Deer Hunting"...they should have called it : "Hurry Up And Wait & Wait & Wait"....aren't you glad you didn't go for coffee?....great looking Buck....you were right that was a good spot!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a nice buck. Congrats. I hunt northern Wi as well. The body on that deer doesnt' seem that big, did you have it aged?

Great Bill, They really can sneak up on you. Just when you think it's &quot;only a squirrel&quot; you turn to see a deer. It happened to me last year. This year I had to shoot a doe first in my zone and I had set a time to get down that day I thought about getting down 5 min. early but said no I will wait. Just then I heard a noise, since I had not seen a squirrel I thought it was a deer. As I turned I was pleased to see a 1-1/2 old doe with no fawns. She walked past me and at 10 yards I shot. No problem with recovery but I did have to go into the thick stuff to get her out. I like that kind of surprise.

That's a beautiful buck, very pretty rack.
That's one of the things I love about bowhunting, you plan and scout all year, but when the seaosn comes, all you can do is put yourself in position and wait. The whole season can be made in 5 seconds, could happen anytime between the first day and the last day.
Love it.
