For you guys with more than 1 bow....

I'm going to buy a Bowtech Allegiance for next year....and I currently have an '05 Switchback. Money's not a HUGE deal.....but I wonder how many of you actually use your back-up bows once you buy a new model??? If I thought I'd use it for turkeys....targets....etc.....I'd surely keep my SB. If not, though.......I'll sell it.

Anyone????

I would keep it. You never know what can happen. I keep my 3D bow (Apex 7) ready for hunting all season as a backup, and bring it usually on the long road trips just in case. It's not worth not having a backup if you can financially afford it. I work too hard doing the 9-5 to not be able to hunt because of equipment failures. Just MHO.

I can't tell you how many people came into the shop this year during season with messed up bows, cut cables, bows dropped from stands, stuff like that.

According to my wife I have too many bows.[8D] Huh! what does she know! Between my Old Glory and My recurves my backup compound (High Country Slit One X1) Hasn't seen a shot in 2 years. I figure if my Old Glory or God forbid my Chek-Mate Hunter II breaks I have the other to shoot. But in your case I think I might just hang onto that Switchback just incase something does happen to your Allegiance, then you'll have a quality backup bow to use. And if sometime down the road you want to sell the Switchback you should get a decent price for it since Mathews bows seem to hold their value very well.

Exactly, I never want to not be able to hunt because of a equipment failure that morning. Notice that's why I brought 2 bows with me to NC Jeff....ya never know.

At home, I have my own equipment to fix myself up quickly but when away, it's imperative to be ready to switch bows at a moments notice. Notice too how many arrows I brought with me. Let's say I brought the 4 in my quiver....and I fell on my bow breaking all 4....that's why I bring backup, bows, arrows, broadheads, etc....ya never know.

Jeff

I recented bought an Old Glory as a backup to my Switchback. I have a lease in northern Missouri and there are not a lot of bow shops around in case something would happen to the Switchback and I every year I take off a week before gun season so if something would happen it would be about a 2 hour drive back to Columbia to find a bow shop to work on your bow. If something serious would happen, my week would be ruined.

Anyway, enough of my senseless banter. Let me answer your original question. I actually shoot both of mine quite often. My original intention was to use the Bowtech for 3D shooting come spring/summer time due to the longer ATA, faster speed, among other reasons. I still use the Switchback as my primary but have taken the Old Glory out on occasion. I am planning on hitting the woods today and will be taking out the Bowtech.

Good to see there are others out there that have an open mind and shoot across enemy lines and shoot multiple bows without such an "allegiance" to a specific brand. No pun intended. The my Hoyt is better than your Mathews/Bowtech, my Bowtech is faster than your Hoyt/Mathews, or my Mathews is smoother/quieter than your Hoyt/Bowtech gets old. Mathews followers tend to be on the defensive vs. the offensive in most situations though.

Good luck with the Allegiance. I looked, just looked, at one the other day and they are a sweet looking bow. Didn't shoot one, don't want to either ;) as my wife would kill me if I bought another bow.

I have three bows including the stick bow, but I always carry my trykon and razortec in one case. I generally rotate bows after each kill, just for fun. I still love my razortec and I can't bring myself to get rid of it. Sometimes it's fun to shoot something different too... brings me back to "the good ol days."

I bought 4 bows this year--3 custom longbows and 1 custom recurve.I shoot them all-it all depends on what I feel like shooting at the time

RE: For you guys with more than 1 bow....

I dont really keep a back up bow per say. I use to keep a back up compound, a back up recurve, and a long bow. Never used the respective back up, instead I would grab a different type of bow, when the one I was planing on using messed up (which happenend just a few times in 20+ years). I sold my extra compounds, but keep my trad bows. Trad bows tend to be more personal than a compound. You get more of a bond to a trad bow than you do a compound. A trad bow tends to become a part of you.

Every now and then I use my back-up-bow. I had to last season, late season when I had a string issue with my Liberty. Good thing I had it back at the house. I ran back to the house, grabbed the old bow, shot it a few times ( I always shoot it through the summer) so I figured it would be right on. It was. Headed back to the December woods and two hours later my old Clearwater mag did its job.

You might as well hang on to it, if money isn't an issue than you have an awsome backup and who knows maybe you'll decide to go back to the Mattews!

I've always had at least 1 other bow ready to go in case of a mishap that would damage my primary bow. Only needed it 1 time.

I work at an archery shop, so I trade my "old" one in even up every year for a new one. I still have my 10 y/o Riptide to fall back on in case of emergency though.

I bought both the Matthews SBXT and the Bowtech Alleg. I couldn't really make up my mind which one I liked the best. What has happened is I use the SBXT the most. If I am on the ground in a blind I always use the SBXT. The BT is faster and everything else IMHO is in the Matthews favor. I still have my old Hoyt Havoc and it shoots as good as either one of the others. I just can't handle the 70# anymore.

I have a Switchback right now and I plan on going and looking at the new Drenalins and some Bowtechs this summer.

If I like them I will fork over some cash and be called an idiot by all my friends again for dropping $900 on another bow setup.

I don't know what I would do if I have 2 bows, but I love to shoot, so I figure I will just play around with them.

No different thanhaving a lot of guns just forthe heck of it. (which I do)

RE: For you guys with more than 1 bow....

I took a different approach when I bought my Diamond. I changed the limbs on my Alpine Impact X-treme from 60-70 to 40-50. It is now my wifes bow but will do in a pinch as a back-up for me. DL is adjustable from 22-30" without a press. So I could have it cranked up to 50# and dialed in at 29" in no time.

Oh I have a "couple" handy to go at a moments notice if need be, they're all different styles and set up for various applications.......... but you don't want me shootin at ya with any of them.LOL.[8D]

One day this summer I was screwing aroundand had 6 bows out testing through the chronograph on my basement patio. Turned and noticed my 3D deer target;)........36yds , 6 bows , 4 completely different arrow types, 3 different releases =1 golfball sized group.

Don't neglect any ofyour babies, you never know which one you will want or need on any given day.:)
