I shot 'em all, last night.....
Well...I shot all the ones I thought I might be interested in. Here goes.....all bows were shot at 70 lbs.
'05 Mathews Switchback - I bought this new in '05....and wanted to have a baseline to judge others on. I shot mine a few times to get started. #2 up....Mathews Drenaline - Light....smooth....and I did notice a bit of lurch at the bowhand when i shot it. It honestly, otherwise, shot like my present bow....and I wouldn't pay anything to switch. I like the one I have .....OK...better. #3 up...Mathews Switchback XT - Light....smooth...no lurch....easy draw cycle. I'd trade even for this bow, right now....but I don't think that's what the shop owner has in mind. I can buy it for a little over $600.....and I think it's a GREAT bow. #4 up & #5 up....PSE Mach (??) and Diablo.....OK...but not for me. I have a PSE bow (my son's Browning Illusion). OK....but I don't want to shoot one for my primary bow. No offense meant. I just didn't like a few things. #6 up...Bowtech Allegiance - Solid bow....shoots "hard"...and that's hard to explain. Not a negative comment, though. If you've ever been to a NASCAR race....during qualifying....you cn actually tell when one driver is faster than the rest....even though there's only one car on the track at a time. It's that way with this bow. You can really tell it's that much faster. Hard back wall.....and the grip ('07 model) is awesome. #7 up...Hoyt Vectrix - Great feeling bow in your hand. Great LOOKING bow. Draw cycle is good......but I still feel the lurch...similar to the Drenaline...and better (but not nnon-existant) than the trykon....which was very noticeable. I'm wondering if heavier arrows might help this bow???? Don't know. All in all.....they're all good.....but I'm buying an Allegiance for next year. Jeff |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Smart man Jeff, I wish more prople would go out and shoot the number of bows you did before making a decision. I think there would be many more satisfied owners and alot of people who would be surprised that there are other bow companies out there besides Mathews, Hoyt, and Bowtech. I think you will be very pleased with the Allegiance, a top notch bow. I actually have a friend who is thinking of getting rid of his if you can believe that? But he thinks he may be replacing it with a new Bowtech Defender or a commander as soon as he gets to shoot them.;)

RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Can I say I told ya so? [8D]
Seriously... I agree with PA above: Good job on shooting several bows and picking the one that felt right to YOU.... Though I knew it would! ;) Did the Ally have the smooth or the fast mods installed, do you know? |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Greg:
I really don't know. It was tagged (from the factory) and it said it was set on 71 lbs. I didn't even ask about the mods (we were having a local QDMA type meeting amongst the hunters in our area...and I didn't have that much time with the shop owner). I ride right by there on the way home (it's about 2-1/2 miles from my house). I'll ask. I know when you get this bow drawn......there ain't no more, there. HARD back wall....and I like that. Now....I'll admit that after shooting Rob/PA's.....I was biased TO A POINT with the Allegiance. That didn't mean I had anythign bad to say about the others going in....or even now. I shot Rob's bow with an open mind.....and I shot ALL these ohers with an open mind. I'll tell you this....there's a LOT of great technology out there right now. It's a good time to be in the market. If I'd liked one of the others better....I'd have bought it. PSE DOES have a bow for about $400 (I forgot it's name.....but I shot it, too ....it has a rubber grip) that's as smooth a drawer as I've ever drawn. That bow....if they market it correctly...SHOULD do well. I don't have anything negative to say about the others. they're all great bows....and I strayed from the brand I've had nothing but GREAT success and satisfaction with. I'll also say that if I had to choose the next one in line.....it would be the SB XT. That's being honest. Jeff |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Jeff, I'm not surprised either becuase when you shot my bow (almost busting my friggin nocks), it became a part of you and I knew immediately, it worked.
I'd bet the one you shot in the shop had the smooth mods in it. They usually come in that way. The speed mods are slightly harsher, slightly and still give that solid wall but with no creep...and faster. That is exactly the way to look into bows. With an open mind and non brand biases. Too many go shoot one bow and think wow...yeah it'll be fine but without shooting others they'll have no bases to judge on. That's what I did when I bought my Alley..... I went and wanted to buy the Switchback...but after shooting them all the Allegiance was just heads above the rest except that Trykon at the time but hey, a Hoyt shooter for so long it was still sweet...but the Alley won my heart. Great review Jeff, one I can take for accurate vs, Hey I shot this bow only, it's the best....NOT. |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I couldn't tell you the number of guys who come into the shop and say I want to buy such and such bow because my budies sisters 2nd cousin said they are the best.[8D] I really wish more people would shoot t as many as they can get their hands on to see what works best for them. Heck most of the time they are so set in their ways that they won't even entertain the thought of shooting or let alone looking at another brand we have in the shop.[8D]

It will be Aug before I get to shoot all three. I will have to go to 3 different shops. I drove 2.5 hours jusy to shoot a ROSS. Then I talk a Pro shop here into selling them. Which is thier NO 1 selling bow now. I get a nice discount from them now[8D]. I love all the reports, really help me out. Thx SB and others |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I drove 40 minutes (one way)to shoot the vectrix. My guy don't sell 'em.

I mainly do it so I know what I'm talking about when I am working at the shop ans customers ask me my opinion. |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
You guys are #%*&#^&*!;) Not getting rid of my Patriot anytime soon, and don't wanna get killed by the wife because I took out a loan to buy a new bow. Mowing season isn't here for a while and I really don't wanna take a 2nd job at the moment. Too many good bows out there from many manufacturers and all you guys do is blah blah this new bow and that new bow.[8D]

RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Guess Bowtech jealousy can rear its ugly head even in here... [:o]
|
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Coug... think about it... Bowtech shaved nearly half a pound off the Allegiance; the grip is incredible this year, and speeds still up to 335 fps!
You want a new bow... You want a new bow... You want a new bow... You want a new bow... You want a new bow... :D:D:D:D And wait 'til we all get our hands on the Guardian! [8D] |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
That's just the thing, though.....I don't need to take out a second job. I can afford to shoot whichever bow I want to (though I am NOT rich, by ANY means). I shot what I thought were the ones I was interested in.....and made my choice.
Pretty simple.... Jeff |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I also went and shot the bows last night.. I have owned a few Hoyts over the past few years (Xtec, Vipertec, Protec,Vtec, supertec) I can tell you I didn't care much for the vectrix. The no vibration claims are absurd.... It has the same "tuning fork" feel in the riser after the shot just like the Trykon does... (even with the imitation STS) The bow didn't have much "jump" at all but the vibration was out of control. Also the noise the draw stop peg makes hitting the cables is out of control, no matter how easily you pull the stop into the cables.... All the cams are is a toned down version of the spiral cams..... I will say however it is a beautiful bow. The Drenaline had a smoother draw then the Vectrix. Also much less riser vibration. However it did have more "jump" after the shot than the Vectrix. It's valley and wall wasn't the greatest however. I felt the wall was to spongy for my tastes... I have no bias towards either bow and I am just passing on my observations from handling the two of them. If I had to pick between the two I would have bought the Mathews.... [/align] |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
First, I'm gonna go on record and say I am in no way affiliated with Hoyt. Ok, now that's over with....
I ordered a Vectrix the other night, and I can't believe I shot the same bow ya'll did. I couldn't believe how smooth the draw cycle was. The back wall is rock solid w/ the draw stop, and I heard zero noise associated with it. I felt absolutely NO recoil or vibration. All I had on the bow was a rest, tuned it with the levels, and shot it. I fell in love instantly!! I heard no noise with the draw stop pegs. In fact, the only thing I heard was the string hitting the StealthShot, and it wasn't loud by any stretch, but it made a different noise so I noticed it. I just can't believe I shot the same bow ya'll did......kinda weird.... |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I can't wait for the Guardians to show up.......
If not the Guardian it will be an 07 Allegiance for me... |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I would still like to shoot one of those.....We don't have a Bowtech dealer nearby....Let me know what you think of those.

RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I have one dealer in my town. He sells Diamond and Bowtech, so shooting several different brands ofbows here is difficult at best.
Is that 335 fps with smooth mods on the Allegiance?? Also, one way to get money to buy a new bow is to get stuff around the house your wife doesn't use anymore and sell it on ebay!!!! .... LOL * Caution * Use that suggestion at your own risk. Seriously , though, Ijust sold a 9mm hundgun to a local shop... new, never shot, but I din't want it anymore, and I sold 2 shotguns, Franchi 12 and 20 ga., new , never shot, to a guy fromHNI,and I am selling a gold braceleton e-bay that I have my needed bid for. That will give me about $ 1600.00 to go nuts with. Come on Guardian, I wanna shoot ya....LOL But I haven't dared get the wifes stuff, she would kill me. God Bless |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
I had the same experience with both the Trykon and the Vectrix you did, buckeye. I pay too much money for my bows to put up with that kind of vibration.
If you don't notice it, fine. But you might want to shoot something else besides a Hoyt to feel the difference. Jeff |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Can't go wrong with Bowtech!
Way to go! |

RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Rob, I would like to give the BT's a good go round, but we don't sell them and since I work at this shop, I think it wouldn't be to wise to do business in another...[&:] I talk w/ Scott quite a bit and he's got me most interested in them. I'll be calling BT to maybe set up an appointment w/ a rep at our shop.
I have shot lots of other bows, and I can tell the difference. We sell Hoyt, Reflex, Ross and Elite (ever so briefly.) I've shot the PSE Mach X, Browning Illusion, Mathews Switchback, ........and several others I can't think of at the moment. The only one that was close was the Switchback, and it wasn't as nice. I will admit though, I've not shot the Drenalin. I just felt no recoil, no lurch, and very little noise. In fact, it was so quiet the first thing I will do is take the string shox off of it. You simply don't need them w/ the StealthShot. |
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Mr Jeff. Thank you for that. I may not get to shoot them all but if I narrow it down, I'll take that as a good reference.
|
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
hhhhhmmm I better try them!, thanks for your info dude.
|
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
Great review Gobblers! Seeing as my alarm didn't go off this morning and I didn't make it out in the woods when I wanted to, I think that I may go to a local shop and shoot the Allegiance, Tribute and the XT. I think that I am sold on the Alleg or Trib, but might as well shoot all three to see what they feel like. Just hoping that the shops have the '07's in.
|
RE: I shot 'em all, last night.....
its harder for us lefties to get to go shoot them so im just having to take your word for it, i may not end up with an 07 this year but I may try to buy an 06, it just depends though. Id absolutely love to own a ross but there isnt a shop around here that sells them. So ill probably be looking at an 06 hoyt or bowtech.
