public hunting in texas?
Does anybody know of any good public hunting properties in texas? My family has a 100 acre place up in fredericksburg but i have gone up there almost every weekendbut there's not to manymature bucks aroundthere. Or maybe they just arent moving with all the acorns this year in the woods.

From what I have seen that area has some great bucks. If they are in the woods eating acorns get in there and set up a stand in or close to an oak grove. Setting up over acorns has been my most successful tactic. If you still want to try public land the Tx parks and wildlife website will give you good info. Or check into US Army Corps of Engineers properties.

if you are near Ft. Hood they have a decent program that costs $100 for access to over 200,000 acres to hunt.

I have seen plenty of nice deer around there but it's pretty small and that is the only place i ever hunt so I have been wanting to try something new. We have had the place my whole life and so i know everything about it. I think it would be fun to go out and scout some new places.

Yes, I agree, it is always fun to scout new areas. That is why I'm going on a road trip hunt during Christmas break.

From what I have seen / heard is that there are some great deer down in that area! There are also a lot of game ranches, too. If you have private land down there, I would stick with that and get you a game camera and set it up and find out what they are doing. I know there are some big deer down around there!
