I'm with Bob and Germ.

There is an excellent chance that deer will survive. He's hurting right now, but they are incredibly resilient animals.

Try to learn from this and move on. Pick a spot, don't rush the shot and follow through just like in practice. It's a common mistake to drop the bow arm to see where the arrow goes. That seldom works out.

I'd pretty much guarantee that the deer would have bled of you hit him in the ham. Muscle wounds will bleed. And you would have had more penetration then just broadhead deep.

Three things,

Posts like these don't help find deer, unless you don't know how to track deer, in which case you probably shouldn't be shooting at them. Buy a book, learn on line, whatever, just learn it. No matter how many times you try, you won't find a dead deer while sitting at your PC.

Posts like these fuel the anti's, and they do quote us and our posts, as proof (lofty at best, but that is what they call it) that what we're doing is wrong.

If you dont' have a dog, get one. Train it to track dead deer. It is actually really easy and any breed can do it. You don't need a speacial hunting dog, it just have to be healthy and have at least a little brains. There are a lot of good books that will teach you how to teach your dog.
