RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
I've never, but I know a guy that was. He's no longer with us, sadly. I don't think you'll kill them all, but prevention is the best.Spray down w/ that unscented bug spray....I think Scent Killer makes one.....prevent them from biting you is the best you can do.

In all my bowhunting/turkey hunting years I've never once noticed ticks on my cloths let well enough alone on my skin, until>>>...
This year on more than one occassion I've pulled ticks off my clothing, after one turkey hunting morning I've pulled off more than I ever even saw before. This morning I pulled one off my gloves as well. I can't even fathom it, 25 years bowhunting...none, this year it's common. I hope that's not things to come, I'm itching thinking about it. |

Get some "no stinkin' ticks" it works pretty well. Also you can use Permanone on your clothes only and it lasts for quite a while. I've sprayed my scent killer over the top and never had any ticks nor get busted by deer. I've been fortunate this year and haven't had any at all.

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
I have Lyme Disease. Was infected when I was 13. They were able to catch it early enough, but I'm now left with premature artheritis and carpeltunnel. I'm 28 years old, but my body/joints feel like I'm 60. My knees are by FAR the worst. Lost of cartilage and tissue damage. Also, due to Lyme Disease, my body's natural ability to repair and rebuild cartilage is hindered greatly. I snap, crackle, and pop a lot when I move, and yeah, it's painfull.
Bottom line, make sure you were a BugTamer or equivilant suit while hunting. Take a shower as soon as possible when you get out of the woods. |

Your still getting ticks this late in the season? I get ticks in the spring summer and early fall but when mic oct rolls around the ticks seem to dissappear. I hate the things but have grwn accustomed to them most of the year. My uncle had one imbed in his head...think a little lower.[:@] Yea that couldn't have been a good experience.

Unfortunately I have had it, Last summer I started to feel really run down, but played it off to working to much and then acting like a teenager while playing with my kids, but then I noticed a small red rash on the back of my thigh. My wife finally convinced me to go see the Doc and after listening to my symptoms and then seeing the now rather large red rash on my leg. He immediately gave me a prescription of these giant horse pills I had to take for 10 days. He told me that it was good that I came in and that if caught early it is easy to get a hold of, but if you wait to long and it really gets a hold, it can be years of medications.
But on the good side, the rash went away and I started feeling better. But to be honest, I still don't feel like I am back to 100%. Maybe it is just a mental thing, but I seem to feel run down all the time and it has been a year, then again I do have two jobs and two small children, so it could have nothing to do with the lyme's from last year. I never found a tick on my thigh, but the Doc said that it was most likely a deer tick and not one of the run of the mill wood ticks which is what is most commonly seen on our clothes. The deer ticks are tiny. about the size of a pin head. My only suggestion is if you find a tick on your skin, they say to pull it off and place it in a zip lock bag. write the date and location you found it on your body right on the bag and keep it for about a month. If during that time, you find a bullseye shaped rash or start having flu like symptoms or feel really whiped out all the time. Take the bag and yourself to the Doc and have them check it out. |

I've pulled a few off the dog recently and she is nowhere near the woods or trees, just the grass yard in a sub division. I used toget them everytime out alone with chiggers but since I started useing Permanone I have never found one on me or my cloths

Last time out in the woods, maybe 2 weeks ago, I found one crawling on my hand. Kinda late for ticks, but its been warm. During spring turkey season, I use repel with permanone on my clothes. that definitely does the trick. It dries odor free, have had deer come right up to me while turkey hunting.

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
Simple solution,,,Coulston's Duranon Tick Repellent clothing treatment..Odorless when dried, deer will not smell it, spray clothing and hat and gloves and ticks and chiggers are a thing of the past..I even sprayed last weekend when the temps were in the middle 20's in the morning, and was the only one to come out of the woods with no deer ticks(nobody else sprayed, thought it was too cold), in fact I have never had a tick or chigger when I have used the product as directed...One of the best on the market, and one of the few products that actually work...Also available in a formula for cats and dogs...

usually we have alot of snow on the ground by now in mn. this year we dont.I have never been bit by a deer tick and this year for some reason we had an abundance of them.I got bit and got the bullsey bruise,my mom is an RN andretired asthe charge nurse at the local hospital,I showed her and she immediately wanted me to go in,I did not go in and it went away, never got bigger than an inch or so.The cases you need to worry about are the ones that get the size of a basketball, usually on the back where people dont see them for a week.I found two more on me at other times this year that didnt bite.as for someone dieing from it,thats like winning the lotto, not something that happens very often

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
Read some more than,The fact is a very very few number of deer tics carry this disease ,and if you get bit by any deer tic for long enough you will have a bullseye rash, but if it doesnt go away for a month it will grow to the size of a basketball or bigger, one like mine the size of a thumbnail you that goes awa in 5-7 days not to worry, like I said it would be like winning the lottory only....differant [:'(][:-][:o][&o]:([&o][:-][:o][:'(]

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
we have lots of ticks where I live in NY also. I have been bitten twice this season so far. I always spray my clothes down with permenone (repel) from walmart. So far both ticks that bit me were pulled off dead!!! I can't figure out how they bite me then die.. do I have poison in my blood or did the bug spray kill them once they came into contact with my clothing? I did not develop any red rash or bullseye thank god.. There has to be something the DEC can do about the ticks.. isn't there a spray they can cover the forest with from a chopper? I know they spray NYC streets for mosquitos with trucks

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
The one that bit me I thaught was dead too,I was getting in the shower, found him on my leg,put him on the sink, and when I got out he was gone. BTW if you find one you should take it to a hospital they need to test them so hopefully we wont have to worry about them
|
RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
the second one I pulled off my side was flat like a pancake and it's legs were not moving while I held it in my hands.. I put it on the sink to see it it would crawl and nothing.... I eventually washed it down the drain. My father actually duct tapes the bottom of his camo overalls to his boots so the little buggers cannot crawl up his pant legs.

RE: ticks, ticks, ticks, what do you do? lyme disease????
I think it would be almost impossible to bag and label every tick I find, I would have a dozen bags every weekend.
