new bow hunter questions
 

I went out and got a compound bow today, a Fred Bear:

29" draw length

60lb draw weight

3 pin sight

I took a few shots w/ it and it doesnt seem quite right, i dont have a nock point on it yet.

so my questions are.

where do i figure out where i crimp on the nock point on my bow string?

where does my release shooter string go, (i have the wrist release shooter but it didnt come w/ the string to tie onto my bow string) so when i try to use it and clamp the shooter onto the bow string it just slides up and down

Sounds like you need to find someone "hands on" to help you. Do you know someone who shoots compound bows or bow hunts to help you out? When I started I bought my bow at a pro shop and they set it all up for me to get started and gave me advise.

Go bact to where you bought it. They should have set the bow up for you. Don't wait go back now.

I agree with everyone your best bet is to bring it to a pro shop, have it set up right, is your draw length correct bow tuned right with the arrows you are going to be using, then after you bring it there , go to indoor outdoor shooting range and pratice ,pratice,pratice,good luck:)

YUP, sounds like you know slightly more than nothing. Seek professional guidance and quiz them while they do it as to what he's doing, why etc etc. Make it an educational trip, not one to just get it done. Ideally you'll want that arrow perpendicular to string with your loop attached above and below the arrow. Simplified answer, but you get the idea. You really need some help. How tall are you? Are you sure the 29 inch draw was the right length or did you just grab a bow off the rack?

depends, your draw length could very well possibly be to long. I started with a 29" browning, then found it was too long, dropped to a 28" PSE then finally got my wits about and found it still didn't feel "just" right for me. So now i found the perfect size and it's a Mattews26.5" drawlength with a d-loop on it coming to approx. 27" orso. It feels wonderful, i'm 5'8" and weigh 160lbs, but i think my arms are shorter than most... just my two cents... do it the right way, go to a pro shop and have them check your draw length, then test some out and see what lengthsbest for ya. They have a page that features video on tunning bows and set-up amongst other things. Two years ago I shot a bow , point , aim , and hope . Now I shoot a complex piece of technology that every little part can alter ther arrival destination of the arrow. Ive been learning alot lately , it never stop's. Just keep asking ???'s and check out the tuning post on the forum.

For your ????'s
1) you need to put a arrow on your string and find 90* , from string to arrpw . Mark with white out. Get nock pliers and nock , put over mark and crimp. I suggest the string loop for using a release. Adjust your rest so arrow is inline with string ,, from nock to tip. Read some articles on form .
I said tuning section but its under technical .

You don't need to have any clamps on the string, just le loop, if it is on right, that is all you need, those clamps slow down the string. But definately take it to someone that knows exactly whats up, you might get it close if you kinda know, but do it right and you will shoot tighter groups.
