The odds were 10 to 1...
My roomate and I were driving back from viewing an apartment. On the way home, we got into the discussion about robin hooding an arrow. He said he saw on Myth Busters that they couldnt, with all traditional equipment and a hooter shooter, robin hood an arrow. He also said that he didnt think it was possible to anyone to robin hood an arrow regardless of whether they were using a compund or a traditional.
We got to my house, right as I blurted out, "Ill bet you I could robin hood an arrow within 20 shots from 10 feet." My friend quickly responds, "Ill give you ten to one odds saying you cant robin hood one from ten feet." I quickly pulled out ten dollars and placed it on the hood of my car. He took out a hundred, and placed it right next to it. As I grabbed my equipment he measured off the distance and setup the bag. I came out, and we set the rules. I would have six shots to place my target arrow. Basically, I shot six one arrow flights, then choose the one I wanted to be the target arrow. Figures, it was a new arrow that won the nomination. After that, I would take one shot at a time, with no rest, until I shot 20 times and missed or I robin hooded it at least to the end of my arrow wrap, which was about 8 inches. So, the lines were set, and I started shooting. For ten shots I didnt even come close, not even with any shafts touching. It was at 15 when I got really worried. My friend, thinking he has his money in the bank, starts talking his bs trying to physch me out. The 15th shot made a sound I never heard before, and I let out a whoop. I figured that it didnt even come close to getting enough penetration, but low and behold, after alot of examination, I had excedded the wrap by a half an inch. My friend looked at me in disbelief and said, "I have to shake you hand man, I didnt think it was possible." He then handed me my 110$ dollars. I went to hand it back, and he said, "No no, it was a fair and square bet, I would have taken your ten, so you take my hundred." Anyway, I am not going to call it a robin hood, not legitimatly at least. Ten feet is way to close, and it wasnt back to back shots. Still, just thought I would share. I should also mention that this kid and I play alot of poker together, and he and I also have quite a few proposition bets between us going...this levels the score:) Pics will be posted soon. |

Not too shabby.
Kinda pissed though, didnt consider the cost of replacement arrows in this equation;) ![]() |
RE: The odds were 10 to 1...
Even though it was only 10 ft, very cool. That's fun between friends and I would have taken the money too, a bet is a bet...

RE: The odds were 10 to 1...
Nice job campo.
I would probably need 50 shots to come close. Best I have ever done was to shave vains. |
RE: The odds were 10 to 1...
Outstanding story accompanied by a great photographic image of fun between friends.
That was enough of a bet to add a lot of tension to the deal too! |

The first time i robin hooded a aarow was with my brand new gold tips and quick spin fletchings. I bought the aarows went home and decided to practice and at 20 yds my 5th aarow went directly through the fourth one. I still got both them arrows hangin up in my room. It deff can be done.

Actually on Mythbusters they were trying to prove that Robin Hood couldn't have done it. The reason being is that he was using wooden arrows and the grain of the arrow would not allowone arrowto actually travel the entire length of the other arrow. The arrow would splinter off one way or another. That is a myth that cannot be busted.
BTW here is another pic of an expensive Robin Hood. http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h286/jbsoonerfan/?action=view&current=DSC02738.jpg |

Sometimes that picture is worth onlya $110 and not 1000 words. Yuk Yuk Yuk. I love it.[8D][8D][8D][8D][8D] Hey, and what did you expect..for the arrow to go all the way down the other shaft. You won't get much more penetration with a compound. Robin hoods usually stop by the time they get to the front end of the fletching. Spend the $110 for two new arrows and take your friend to lunch.[8D]

At our local archery shop, we take plastic christmas ball and hang them from the cieling, normal target height. One of the techs there robin hooded two arrows, that would be four wasted, in the same night in this ball. He has done it in a normal target puposely before a couple times, but when told he could not do it while shoting the ball, he did it, the second set was to prove it was not just luck. It only took like 5 tries, but he hit the ball every time he shot. Thats good.

RE: The odds were 10 to 1...
That is agreat story. My luck would be that if I were trying to get a robinhood, I wouldn't get one.
One time I had just made a dozen alum. arrows. These arrows were made for shooting in the old IBO indoor hunter rounds. You shot indoors at 20 yards at a black and white animal target. You couldn't see the bullseye from the shooting line, but you could use your binos and pick a spot. It was difficult to shoot a 300 on a target like that. There was a good chance that you'd shoot a glance out on each 5 arrow end. You shot this just like an NFAA 300 round, except you couldn't see the bullseye. Anyway, the arrows I made were super slams 2115s with 3" fletch and saunders combo points. The combo points were supposed to glance out less. Well, I shot the first round and had robinhooded, no big deal. Then my GF shot and robbinhooded also! 4 arrows out of a dozen gone the first time they were shot! Dang it! |
RE: The odds were 10 to 1...
The first two shots that I ever took with my bow robinhooded. I was kinda mad cause I only had enough money for 6 arrows and I ended up ruining 2 of them. Talk about beginners luck
