rattling?

I had a buck out of range the other day and he wasnt responding to grunting so when he continued moving on I tried my rattle bag and he bolted, his tail never went up but he left in a hurry. This morning I was grunting and then hit the rattle bag and out of the corner of my eye seen a deer dart into some corn not sure what it was, any suggs on when to rattle, any sequence to use,or not using a bag?

I dont think there are any set rules...watch his body posture to try and see if he is dominant or not...but otherwise its occationaly you will get shafted. Two weeks ago i was out with a camera and had a 14 point nontypical coming in. when he turned aside I grunt snort wheezed at him and off he went with his tail between his legs. No pics that day[:@] That is the first time that happened to me though with a mature deer.

It depends on how mature the deer is. If it was a younger buck that knows he is not the dominate buck in the area it may spook him off. Also if you do it real loud it might spook them sometime. Its tuff to tell exactly when and how to rattle but a lot of factors tie into it. Good luck
