NC has 100 counties. NC has 133 Wildlife Officers. Now take away the admins officers, safety specialist, etcand you have 94 Enforcement Officers. Take away the 31 assigned to lakes/waters and you have 63 Enforcement Officers and 100 counties. Which is .63 officers per county. Not even 1 !?!


Unless you call, and call, and call again, you won't hardley ever see a "game warden."

It's up to us as hunters to police our own ranks.

I know here in KS that in the past certain areas are usually the target of the Conservation officers. But due to events that occurred last deer season that had to do with poaching, their efforts are concentrating in more broad areas and KDWP is supposably bringing in federal officers in plain clothing to watch areas of high concern. I'm not worried since i dont participate in unethical harvesting of wild game or any other unlawful activities but I'm sure there are some people out there who had better watch out, the laws coming for them. I hope it will put an end to most of the poach and illegal hunting.

The laws around here are so poorly enforced, most people who do poach have no fear of getting caught. [:@]
So much so, they don't even care to admit it out loud![:@]
A couple years ago I was out turkey hunting.
When a truck just pulled up andjust started throwing outbags of trash![:@]
I got a discription of the vehicle and after they left I tore open one of the bags and got a name andaddress.
I called the WV DNR.
I told the officer what I had witnessed and told him I had thier discription and even thier name and address.
All the officer said was..."Everybodys littering..."
And with that, he hung up the phone.
No wonder you can hardly get anyones permission to hunt on private land!!!
I guess DNR stands for "Does Not Respond"[:@]

Here in Maine they are strong to discourage poaching. But, the problem is a big area all over here and there is not enough money going around to help catch them. But, when they do they know it. Here you can lose your vehicle, gun/bow, liscense, and your right to hunt for up to five years, as well as a $ 1000 dollar fine and up to three days in jail on the first offense. So it will discourage most would be poachers, but, some do not care and will poach anyway with or without the liscense. They are enforced when they get caught, but all to many doing it, and the warden's truck sits home. As not enough funds for them to get out all the time.
