Back Shot Ethical?
A guy at work had a nice 12 pointer in the back of his truck last week. I found out he shot it through the rack into his back exiting the deers groin. The deer walked 40 yards and dropped. My opinion is this guys lucky. Of course every year he drives up with a big buck. What do you think - shooting from a tree stand through the deers back and exiting its groin...is that an ethical shot?

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
Not in my opinion

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
I wouldn't take that kind of shot, way too risky! And not ethical.

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
No I don't think so.I wonder how many deer this guy has wounded with low percentage shots like that.

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
Ethics is personal thing for the most part. If he can live with it I guess it's alright if he consistantly harvests deer. Myself or anyone I know wouldn't take that shot though. I have seen a deer get spine shot, I have no desire to do it myself. Sure it will drop them, but it isn't a pretty sight if you have any compasion for your game at all.

no i wouldn't do it wait for a better shot

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
Ditto!

RE: Back Shot Ethical?
For me, no. I would rather pass up a perhaps bad shot to not wound the deer. I, and I believer most, hunters take pride in executing solid shots.
