How cold is to cold for you to Bow hunt??

I live in Northern Alberta Canada. I've been bow hunting for the past 2 months with no bow kills but have pasted on 3 nice bucks just not big enough for me to end my season.

Anyway I'ts been pretty cold up here about -20C. Sitting on stand is not hard, but dressing warm and not to bulky is.

So whats the coldest you have hunted in??

Thanks AL

I'm in central mn. The coldest I've hunted in is about -5 fahrenheit. too dumb and lazy to translate that to celsius. it's tough to sit out there when it's that cold. the whole point is to sit still! I've hunted quite a few times at that temp, but anything colder then that is too much for me.

-8 F, w/ a -20 wind chill.....Damn that was cold!! But here in Missouri, it don't get quite as cold as you northerners, eh? ;)

It can get quitecold here. I've hunted quite a fewtimes whenthe day time high was -15 below. I try not to look look at the temp when I head out in the morning. Just depresses a guy. :D Some of my best hunts happen when it is that cold as the deer move all day feeding. You just throw on a few more layers of clothes making sure they fit loose so you aren't resticted. I buy my OUTERwinter hunting clothes a size or two bigger just for that reason. While I might look like an oversized Philbury Dough Boy... it works very well for cold temps.

Tomorrow morningthey are talking 5 above. Chilly but not real cold yet.

I think the coldest I have deer hunted with a bow was -11F with windchill about -25
Very cold, that was the day that I decided to buy my Cabela's boots, they have 3" of insulation under your feet. They work great for sitting on a stand in cold weather!

I'll have to let you know when I get back from the Bow Zone in Alberta. It's been in the single digits at night and in the teens to low 20s during the day.[:@] This will be a COLD week ahead, I hope I can hang for all day hunts.;)

Depends if I have a tag or not!!!

:)

Zero degrees F is my limit with no wind, with a strong wind, probably 10 degrees will only allow me to last about 1 1/2 hours.

Yah der eh!, no joke, I actually heard that from a U.P.'er when we were up there riding sleds.

Coldest hunt I was ever on was gun season '85 or 86'. I was two years out from carrying a gun but I was lookout for my grandpa, sitting in a box on a ridgetop in western WI with a 20mph North wind. -40 or better with the wind chill, THAT IS FREAKIN' COLD!

When it gets around in the 20's and below thats when it's too cold for me .
I can't standthe cold and if I'm in my strand or blind and I get to the point where I can't stop shaking or shivering , thats whe I pack it up and head for home.
I ordered a HEATER BODY SUIT and I can't wait to get it , hopefuly that will keep me warm enough to spend more time in the woods hunting.

The coldest so far I've been out in is about 30 degrees F, but this is my first year bowhunting and it only stayed like that for a few hours. I couldn't see myself staying out for very long if it's much colder than that with no wind. If there is a lot of wind to increase the windchill to the point where my feet and hands are REALLY numb, I'm gone. There is a limit as to how big your gloves are and how thick your support arm is before there are sting interference problems.

Today, right now it's in the 70's as I type this here in VA, I didn't go out because of the heat. I'm praying for cold weather, even though I hate it when it's too cold.

Theres no such thing as too cold.

I hunted in -7 degree temperatures last year.

When I went to get down after hunting all morning, my glove had frozen to the grip of my bow.

I spit and it hit the platform of my stand. Before it could drip down to the ground below, it froze solid.

If I've got a tag in my pocket, I'm going to be in the woods at every opportunity.

I have been out when its below zero before. I wear insulated overalls and a parka and stick to the ground blind if windy. I also discovered on of the best inventions ever this year - boot insulators. For me, cold feet has always been the biggest problem in not wanting to sit any longer. But throw a heater pack in each boot and strap those insulators over your boots when you get to your destination and your feet are toasty all day!

I'll let you know next sunday when I get back from my caribou hunt.

Last New Years eve was last day of the season, I sat from 1/2hr before sunrise to 1/2hr after sunset in a tiny lock-on stand. It snowed, was probably -10c, I climbed down once to get the blood flowing, was back up there 20min later. I couldn't accept the fact that deer season was ending.

I think today was one of the coldest days I have been in. I don't mind the cold ora little rainbut when there is wind mixed in, that's when it hurts. It was 31 degrees F. when I left the house and had 20 mph winds coming in from the North. Don't really know what the wind chill was but I was able to stick it out for 4 1/2 hours. My feet told me to head back. It wasn't so bad as I was watching a small buck chase a doe around the field but once they took off, it was cold and lonely.

Well, since my camo is only good down to about 30 or maybe 20-25, and its just regular coveralls that I've had forever that I put camo bibs on over them.AND I have no insulated boots yet, I don't hunt in the cold weather. and I get crap from my friends for not hunting enough, but when you have no money to buy the stuff, you cant go out in cold weather very good!

The coldest I have ever hunted was 20* F. I don't get to hunt as much as I would like but I think this weekend will be extremely cold. Im expecting at very least low teens. We'll see though...

A couple years ago I sat in -10F with -30F windchills. Think I only lasted a couple hours before I was froze. I did set a personal record that dayfor getting dressed/undressed quickly at the truck though :D
