Salt lick

I set out a sweet acorn salt lick for the deer a few weeks ago up by where I hunt. Its not exactly to get them in to shoot them but more to keep them coming back to my general area because I only have about 15 acres or so to hunt on by my house. Well I see deer around and plenty of tracks but none of the tracks seem to come within 5 feet of the salt lick and I can tell nothing has touched it. Would this be because they just can't smell it for some reason? Would pouring water on it to soften it up help? Like I said, I have deer in my area and they come to this spot as it is but I would really like them to get some use out of it being I bought the thing forthe little buggers! You know, just trying to give back to them, they feed my family!

Edit:It is also there as my 15 yard marker being I am new to bow hunting and it helps to keep an idea of my distances.

RE: Salt lick

While they'll go to it at all times of the year......the mid to late Summer is when they'll be on it the most (and Spring).

It's just a slow time for minerals, right now.

(my opinion)

They just aren't in need of the minerals right now. The does are no longer nursing, or bearing fawns, and the bucks aren't growing antlers. There's only one thing on their minds right now...
