Greg H. and all
I let 4 more 8 points walk that were easy chip shots. The one tonight was real close to getting a broadhead but I justdidn't let it go. I'm stillholding out for the big boy I seen. I hopeI don't wind up with tag soup. Anyone else seeing a big boy they are holding out for?

RE: Greg H. and all
Same here, Ive got lots of cam pics of a monster, but have yet to see him in the flesh this year anyway, Its getting harder and harder to hold out, Im seeing bucks every time im in the stand but shooters are staying away, its time for the big one to mess up though.

RE: Greg H. and all
my dad has seen him yesterday at dark and this morning off of our front porch and i passed on a spike in velvet for that deer and while in Illinois i hear of a big deer on a stand i passed on a 120s 10 point for that deer

RE: Greg H. and all
Tough call Motown, I passed a nice 120-130 8 the same day I shot the big one I was after.
Every buck I seen I just kept telling myself he is not the buck you want. I was one fallen tree away from not getting him. You get maybe one chance here in MI at your buck. I am guessing KS is the same. |
RE: Greg H. and all
i did the same hunting something to put on the wall and my wife say it better be worth $400.

RE: Greg H. and all
I hunted from 9:00am to 1:00pm saw nothing. Went back out at 2:30 at 3:30pm I saw a doe running across the cornfield toword me. Then a couple seconds later a medium sized 6-8 point was chasing her. They finally slowed down when the passed me and may thier way into the timber. I bleated and they came running back to the corner I was close to. The doe came out and around to my stand (fence row). The buck stayed just inside the timber. He was grunting about every 30 -40 seconds. The doe comes over to my ladder and starts smelling around for about 5 mins. Then she takes a big wizz right at the bottom of my ladder. I was waiting on him to come out. She went back around and trotted down the timber I was next to. The buck stayed inside and followed her along.[:@] Saw them right at dark feeding farther back in the timber....snuck out real quite.
I talked to the land owner and he talked to a guy that had spotted the biggest buck he had ever seen out there in that area. So I was trying to hold out for a chance. But maybe should of taken the doe or at least jumped down on it and try to ride it for 8 secs....[&:] I only have one doe so far. |
RE: Greg H. and all
Hope you get what your after.:)

RE: Greg H. and all
Don't second guess your self or you won't get what you are after. Be patient, you'll get your chance. I messed up a chance at my 10 point because I thought he was a 9 I hadn't seen before. After I let him get by me I saw it was a 10 I would have took. Oh well. I'll keep trying. Due to the wind, I've been hunting a different spot lately. It too looks promising.
Good luck to all in their goals |
RE: Greg H. and all
Hang in there. I regret passing a few goodbucks over the years but you can't tag a big one if a smaller one is wearing your tag. With that said, I have a feeling your 8 points are big enough compared to our's here where I wouldn't have to pass!!That is just not right you lucky .... !!:D
Best of luck although you are one not to need it. You are one who knows how to get it done. Looking forward to seeing pics ofthe brute you shoot this year!! Just how big are these 8s you're passing if I may ask?? Tim |
RE: Greg H. and all
TJF, they are respectable for sur. 130 to 140's. I'm heading out right now for another chance. Best of hunting to you guys. Chris

RE: Greg H. and all
Keep after him Mo. I wish I could just see a deer to have that optionbut only have been out for a total of 9 hours this year. I'll be going with DaveH tomorrow though and the way he is slaying them I should at least see something;)

RE: Greg H. and all
Oh man I think I screwed myself [:-]. I passed up 2 different 8's that would go 120 -130. Has looked pretty blah since then in my woods. I know the one I'm after. I got him on cam a couple times and seen him during daylight hours once. Begining to wonder if I'll see him again and if I messed up my chance at a nice buck.

RE: Greg H. and all
Wow! I almost went against my own advice and shot a 129" 8! What was I thinking? I guess a couple of sparse days makes the smaller ones look pretty good. At least I held off. Patience, man.
After I passed on the 8, a button buck comes along and beds 20 yards from my stand. After 15 minutes, I give him 5 loud grunts... nothing. So I give him a few bleats from my can call.... Nothing! Finally, I just pack up and slowly cilmb down the tree... Nothing! So I just sneak out of there. He must have been super tired to not see a 6'2", 225 lb guy climb out of a tree just 20 yards away. It was cool that I got out of there without being detected. |
RE: Greg H. and all
I don't pass on any bucks intentionally LOL. I have posted this year's story numerous times in different threads with similar questions, but I had aunique 6 or 8 (not positive as I don't really concentrate on the headgear when I'm preparing for a shot), I didn't pass him on purpose, I meant to kill him, I *really* did, but I couldn't draw with so many clothes on. I was kinda glad I couldn't, I woulda been guttin' him out bout the time the 160 class came strollin by, of course, I missed the shot on him, shot right under him. That may have been my only chance at that deer, I've seen him twice since then, but not even in gun range for me (150 yds out), and on the neighboring property, so I KNOW he's still there.
Tomorrow will make a week since I've been in the woods, just had too much going on with sick kids, out of state weekend and whatnot. I'm hoping he's still hangin' around, but who knows. Either way, we need some more freezer meat, so I'll take whatever comes out. So far, I've seen more wallhangers this year than anything, so hopefully my... ahem... "patience" will pay off. Hang in there, if you have that many deer around you, chances are if you are beginning to smell the "tag soup" boiling, you will have a shot at *something* before it's all said and done. Good luck to you! |
RE: Greg H. and all
I passed on a number of bucks, some of them were nice deer for my area, but none were the 2 that i was after. 2 weeks back i found out that both deer i was after were hit by a car and died within one day of each other. I ended up finding on the one deer, but never got to see the other. Ever since then i havent been able to get a buck within bow range. Figures, but that is hunting.
