Successful hunt...for me anyway

After getting my bow in the middle of October and practicing non stop I finally felt confident enough that I could make a good shot. I went out Sunday morning before sun up and got in my tree stand. Not long after daybreak I watched a squirel come out of his nest a few trees away, stretch and go scurrying about for his breakfast. Not too long after that a few birds began running up and down the trees around me,including the tree I was in. This made me feel that I must be doing something right to be somewhat undetected. Not too long after this (not sure when,I forgot a watch) I heard the cracking of something approaching. After what seemed like forever a six point buck came out from behind a tree. As I have read on here many times,my heart really began to pound.( this by the way was my first time ever hunting anything). He walked on by at about 40 yds and disappeared behind some cedars. Not to much later he came back and there was another deer with him. This other one never came out to be seen fully.Just legs and belly under the cedars. They fed on acorns for quite a while but never got any closer than about 40yds. even though I didn't get to take a shot, knowing I scouted and picked a place to put my stand that allowed my to see some deer made me feel pretty good ! Now I need to work on getting them to come nearer. Thanks to everyone who posts here. I have gained much knowledge in a short amount of time. Hopefully soon I'll be posting some picks of my first kill !

That heart pounding is whats called buck fever. Feels good doesn't it. If I ever quit getting it I'll quit hunting.

I try to wait and get nerves after the shot...:) I like it better when you can watch the deer for a little while. Give yourself a chance to calm down. Instead of sneaking up on you andthen yourtrying to get into position to make a shot...[&:] Get those pics to us as soon as possible....:D

Good luck!

Way to go! Sounds like you are doing fine. Now that the rut has begun, you may want to use a drag rag or sent wick or mock scrape... something to bring them in a little closer. Good luck to you.

I don't ave any calls yet. As I was sitting there, I was thinking...Why didn't I buy some when I was looking at them at Wally World last week ? DOH ! Oh well, live and learn. Any recommendations ? The Can, grunt tube, rattle bag ? All the above ? Thanks again for all your help !
