Happy birthday to me!

In my 7th year bow hunting I finally killed a buck. Though I've had hundreds of opportunities at smaller and bigger deer I finally got it done. Many of you may remember my sob story of my 160 class neck shot went bad last year (that buck still is alive and well...and bigger..and SMARTER!). Many members here gave me a hard time about that (atlasman), but I've redeemed myself I hope. It feels good for all our hard work to finally pay off. This is the 3rd big buck shot on our property this year with a bow. Allgrossing 135 or better.

This deer came right in at 4:10 making scrapes every 10 feet. I had a tough time getting a shot, but he came around my tree perfectly to offer a slightly quartering toward shot and I hit both lungs. He ran 50 yards and was stone cold dead.

Since it was my birthday and I had a 90 minute drive home I went right to work. I ran to my truck 3/4 of a mile away (I run 70 miles a week all summer) and had him loaded up without field dressing by 4:30 (by myself). I drove him 2 miles to the taxi to get him registered and weighed. 240# live. The taxi offered to dress him so I never even put my knife on this deer except to cut off the tarsals. I re-loaded him up, got him back to the cabin for pictures and drove him right back to the taxi to cape out. I was home in time for cake with my wife and daughter :) It was a great end to a great season. I've never seen as many nice bucks as this year. I saw 3 bucks that were over 125" just this weekend.
