I grew up in Pell City, AL and know of this state park and how many deer I saw there as a kid. I would go if I were you- kill 2 birds with one stone. Control the deer population and put meat in your freezer.

Nothing should enter your mind about fair chase in that park. The deer aren't going to be tied to a stake. Who cares if their tame. Shoot away. Your job is to help control the herd and save lives!

I love Oak Mountain. If you get to the top of the Jeep Climb and see a pair of sun glasses still sitting on the bench, could you mail them back to me? I was to far away and too worn out to go back up there and get them.

I just did the 18 mile mountain bike loop a few times. The area looked awesome to hunt. Yes, I would bring your climber an enjoy the hunt.

They did this when I lived in Bham a few years ago (during college). I do not know if this is the first one since, as I do not live there now. But the deer killed during the one I remember were very poor and malnurished. I think the biggest one killed was in the 120-130# range and was a mature buck, if I recall correctly. Of course, it has been 3-4 years, so I could be mistaken on that point. The deer there are way over the carrying capacity, though. I do not know what part of the park you will be hunting on, but I would say carry a climber. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. And good luck. I hope you get two. The herd needs it.
