Oh man, I'm gonna FREEZE!
 

So, I just crawled out of my cave to hopefully go take one down, and I check the weather, 29 degrees, winds at 8 (enough to cut through ya), making it feel like 21!!! What have I gotten myself into!? This better pay off today... and if not today, tomorrow, cuz it's suppose to be even colder!!!


On a good note, it should have the deer movin' a little more... I HOPE.

It is freezing rain and sleet here in New York where I am. I don't mind the cold, it is the rain and cold together I don't like.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could wear 3 more layers, but as I sadly found out last week, I can't draw my bow with so many clothes on! LOL Gun season is different, I'd be alright... but sometimes we have to sacrifice and yadda yadda yadda. ;)

Besides the fact I have been hunting so hard I haven't slept past 4:45am in 3 weeks! Sheesh!

If you can include a light rain coat under your jacket but above the other layers, it won't add alot of bulk, but it will stop the wind from slicing thru ya. Works for me.

Y'all nawthern Hoosiers are such sissies , it's 29 and windy down here too and I'd kill to be out there instead of sitting in my nice warm office raggin' you ! ;)

What are you complaining about, I'd take that weather any day of the week and be happy. :)

I took this guy last year late season at15 degrees.

Remember that it only takes about seven seconds after you get a shot at something to never even notice the weather. :D

I really, really wanted to stay out until about now... but my hunting partner was froze to the bone, and I was getting there. Bowhunting in cold weather/wind sucks!

Believe me, I took a ton of razzin' from my husband via text message, as did his best friend (my huntin' buddy), we got called everything. LOL Easy for him to say, he shot his buck this year with a T-Shirt on!! :eek:

Oh well, that's probably going to be it for me until Monday. Got too much stuff going on this weekend, leaving to go out of state tomorrow...

FREEZE!!!!!! Hell thats a heat wave up here in Wi, were sitting at 17 with winds 10-20mph. Talk abotu freezing when you hunt up here along the rivers lol.

:D:D:D:D:D:D I hear ya! The wind has been pretty brutal for the past week! I like the cold but can't stand the Wind... A little wind is good but 15 - 25 is a bit much!

Well, I was thinking the winds were going to be calm today, I got out there with 10mph and by the time I got home it was 15 gusting to 20.... NOT predicted, once again. Idiot forecasters. If they want to pay me that kind of money to guess at what the weather is going to be, I'd be more than happy to take it.

Suppose to warm back up next week, and just in time for prime early rut activity too. Maybe by this time next week I will have my tag filled and not have to worry about it anymore.

I have a hard time staying warm also.....my feet get me the most. I use the warming packs ahd they do help, along with battery-powered socks.

Yah, my husband's best friend is my best friend's husband. LOL So, best friends married best friends, it works out nicely, but my friend is a girly girl and would much prefer having a facial and massage done at a spa than sitting in the cold (or *any* weather for that matter) to kill a deer. I think she gets frustrated because during hunting season, she loses her best friend to the guys. Well, most the time she loses me to the guys because I am into sports, hunting, fishing, etc... She loves to shop the day away... I'd like to keep away the day I have to shop! I HATE shopping, like I said, she's a girly girl, but I love her anyway. :)

lol, I did, I DID hunt! I've hunted harder this year than all three of my other years combined! I haven't harvested anything yet, but it's been some great times out there this year!

I always end up lmao because Joe always ends up dropping half his stuff out of stand by the time we get out.

Still, I don't know how you "Northerners" do it! Cold temps aren't my cup of tea, unlessit'sfor a good hunt, I want NOTHING to do with them!

We become immune to it. I actually prefer it more on the RAW side out there. I dont' really notice the cold untill my nostril hair starts freezing and I can't breath through my nose anymore.

The weather is going to warm up slightly early next week, but the rut has seemingly kicked in, so it shouldn't make too much of a difference! Good luck, take a big one, or TWO (one for Ohio) down!

hey,.buckhunten girl ,.back in the day when i was your age i was out bow hunting in a-40 wind chill and i did shoot a doe that night ., but!! i had to draw back or try to 4 times before i got my bow back., ok, now that im that much older, i still hunt when it is cold but a - 40 nope ., im done with that ., good luck to you and your hubbie ., and hey if you keep going out in this cold ,.that little baby of yours will love the cold and want to go hunting in the cold all the time., lol., good luck to you !

You just got to dress right. Start with a good base layer of Blue Undies.
You really have to learn to layer it properly. Head and feet are the critical points. Simple things like a light weightbalaclava can make such a difference. If you still need help the chemical heaters can be used. I avoid using them until the last possible moment as they don't cover everything and I think make other areas seem cold. I like nothing better than to sit in a tree and have my face mask freeze from my breath. I usually cut a hole to keep it from icing too bad. There's nothing more quiet and heavenly than to sit on a big ridge with big fluffy snow covering your bow, arrow, yourself and everything. It's pure heaven I tell ya. I could sit out there in that without a bow. I love it when it's starting whenI walk in and by the time I leave it's 6 or 8 inches thick. You dress properly it just piles up on you like snowflage and you have to shake it off once in a while. Absolutely nothing finer to me.... Nothing. When it gets to 20 below it starts to get real hard to stay warm. You need all the tricks, windstopper, heaters, toe warmers, layers of layers and you just have to force yourself to do isometrics against the tree and your stand. You should draw the bow every 45 minutes or so. Drink fluids(nothing beats water to me) and munch some power bars for energy.You should evacuate your bladder too. I know, hard for a girl. Well heck, it's hard for me too through 4 layers of long johns of poly and smart wool and then heavy wool pants and maybe even a cover suit of snowflage. On top I'll have an extra layer or two. Usually 3 layers of undies and 2 wool shirts or one and a wool jacket.

The baby is part of the problem right now! LOL They haven't exactly come out with maternity hunting clothing... YET. LOL I have to scrounge together whatever I can find right now. Luckily, I am a small person, so I don't get blimpish while pg, just a little basketball out in front. She has helped with my circulation though. My hands have stayed relatively warm this entire year so far.

Davidmil, I *do* like the snow. It actually insulates and makes 30 degrees feel like 40. I have warmer clothing, it just doesn't fit right now! I've been moochin' out of hubby's closet for my camo needs for the last month. I have been dressing with a base layer of underarmour type stuff, 2 t-shirts, a polar fleece pullover type thing and then a fleece button down shirt, topped with my husband's lightweight bowhunting jacket. I've been fine up until today... but it didn't help that I had a guy sittin beside me shiverin', made me focus on that instead of hunting! I also really, REALLY, need to go to our other house and get my thermo cold weather hunting boots, I've been doubling up with wool socks in my Alpha Burly's. It's alright, but it isn't thinsulate!

Alpha Burlys will NOT make it in cold weather. When it gets cold you need true cold weather boots or boot blankets. They're a cheap alternative that does work, although they limit mobility in the stand since they're so bulky. DOn't put them on until you get in the tree. Due to some tissue damage from Vietnam and some vein surjury in later years I have one foot that I have to fight to keep warm even in cool weather. You just have to plan for it.

I live in south dakota, and I went out this morning and the wind chill was 6 degrees F. It wasn't too bad. I own a cheap generic set of Under armour, then comes jeans and insulated pants, a t-shirt, two sweatshirts, and a scentblocker jacket. I have boots, but they don't keep my feet really warm, I'm in the market for a, new pair any suggestions? I believe it is absolutley crucial to eat a good meal before going out. I find that if I eat a poptart and then go hunting I get much colder(uncontrollable shivering/muscle spasms)and hungry quickerthan if I had eaten eggs, or pancakes and bacon... And one last thing, DON'T EVER SWEAT ON YOUR WAY TO THE STAND! If you do you'll be frozen in a half hour after getting to your stand. Good luck to all!

I'm going to be hunting in Alberta the week of Nov13th-18th and when I checked the weather up there last night it was supposed to be a low of 9F and a high of 22F, now that's freezing![:@]

It's supposed to be 19 degreesSaturday morning where I hunt here in VA. That's cold for VA in November, but it's music to my ears, because I think the deer will be moving!

Yeah, its supposed to be cold tomorrow here. It was19 degrees on the ol' Suburban rear view mirror thermometer. When I took the deer in my avatar last year it was below 10 degrees with about a 15 mph wind DIRECTLY in my face. Snot was freezing in my nose, it was terrible. Finally when I really couldnt bare it anymore, I stood up and watched the field behind me for a little bit, just to get my face out of the wind. Then after a couple minutes a gave a little look behind me to see the old fella. I turned and the rest was history.
