I'll never forget the day I got my first bow!! It was a total surprise. I came home from school (I was about 16) and my dad met me in the front yard with it. I couldn't believe it and man was I stoked! I think I shot me first deer (basket racked 8 pt) when I was 17. Been addicted ever since!!!

I got myself into bowhunting at around 29yrs old.
Our rifle season is only 2 weeks long and that just wasn't enough for me, now I hunt with a compound and a bunch of the guys from rifle camp have bought x-bows.

I have been hunting and trapping since I've been able to walk. My father and grandfather would always take me with them if it wasnt to cold for me. I always had a bow to shoot but I wasnt allowed to bow hunt until I satisfied 2 conditions for my father. My dad had an old indian bow set at 50 lbs. Until I could pull it back I wasnt allowed to hunt with a bow. The second condition was I had to be able to shoot 3 in groups at 30 yards. I finally accomplished both feats at the age of 11. Ive been hooked ever since.

I have been hunting ever since I can remember which was about the age of “6”. My dad started taking me with him then, but it wasn’t till my second time out to the stand that he put a gun in my hands, which was a Remington 1100: 12 gauge shotgun, with Buckshot. I didn’t kill my first deer until the age of “15”; actually we did not recover the doe I shot that afternoon until a week or so later. This was my first shot at a deer, obviously not the best placement, but we eventually found her in the general vicinity of the area that I was hunting.
Since then I have killed 2 more deer, a 9pt. and a spike. Both of which were taken on the same weekend (9pt. on Saturday, spike on Sunday) last season, when I was
“17” (one week before my 18th birthday).
After my 18th birthday, I took all of my birthday money and the money I had saved up from working, and went out and bought the bow (Hoyt) I had been saving up for and wanting for a good while. I decided to shoot non stop to prepare for this years bow season, and I eventually got involved in shooting 3D, and field shoots. Both of which have really prepared me for this season, but for the last 3 months, I haven’t got to shoot as much as I had been or as much as I would like, because I have been away from home, at college. But I still have a great deal to learn, and accomplish. I have been out a good bit this year, but with no luck yet. I hope that I will be able to enjoy this way of hunting for many years to come.
Ryan.
