shot to low behind shoulder....

can you shoot too low on a broadside deer??
shot a 8pt this morning, the shot went RIGHT behind the forleg looked a little low for the heart, had good blood for about 125yd the n nothing, made a wide circle found one drop blood about 150yrds away, then it went up a high hill,i had a hard time climbing, then found
his bed a couple drops of blood in it,then nothing followed his tracks for a while, then lost them as he went up another hill.
still feeling bad hate to lose a deer, but i think he will survive.

The only way he will survive is if you shot so low you only cut the skin. If the arrow penetrated the chest cavity, even low, it should be a lethal hit. The lobes of the lungs will be below the heart and you should have cut them if you got in the chest. I'd keep looking. Was it a pass through? If so what did the blood on the arrow look like?

Do you know if you had a passthrough and/or recover the arrow? Was there any telltale signs on your arrow or the ground. BRIGHT red, bubbly "lung blood" for example? Thin, brown drops of liver bile? Stinky gut matter? Or white hair that would indicate you just nicked its underside and it will probably be fine?

Yes you can shoot too anywhere on a broadside deer. Are you in a tree or on the ground? That affects the angle. You can hit all that brisket meat and its going to bleed a lot but if you miss the heart that deer won't be found.

the lungs are not below the heart. Check a picture of the vitals again.
