I just (this year) bought a big box of them from the industrial suplly store. I use them when I check my game cams, too.....and I like having them on when I'm handling the carcass. I went through 4 or 5 pairs, Tuesday night.

RE: Rubber Gloves -- and DEER TICKS

Here in NY there's a bigger reason to use them - lyme desease from deer ticks. I know two people who got it and it's horrible. (I don't think it's as prevelant in other regions.)
Unless of course you've waited a good few hours to retrieve your deer? HEY, there's a question for a post:
How long do ticks live in the (warm?) skin of a downed deer?

I use them so that I don't have to wash in the cold stream! That water can be so cold it burns!

As to the tick issue. I used to treat my own hides for fly tying. I have had deer and elk hides that, after washing in soap and insecticide, still had ticks crawling out of the hair 3 days after salting (usually 4-5 days after skinning). I would find them in a 1 foot wide salt ring around the hide and in the salt on the hide. Ticks will stay put until they have to move. A few hoursdoes not seem to matter. But get warm body close by and they will move to the fresh taget quickly.
