i do, i use montec g5 100gr, 3 blade

i highly recommend them, best broad head ive ever used, they go right through deer, and i shoot better with them on than with feild tips.

I'll let you know after I shoot my first deer with them ;). I'm using them this year. They shoot just as good as field tips.

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

I been using them a 2 years now. They fly great and really hold up. Only draw back is they are not very sharp out of the box. A super sharp blade is critical so every thing it comes in contact with gets sliced. Adull blade will actually move things aside making only a hole. Get em sharp guys. The G5 strikers are super sharp out of the box.

Son just got a nice doe with them last week. Complete passthrough, but he did slide the broad head between the ribs on both sides. He's pulling about 54 lbs. REally good blood trail and recovery within 100 yrads.

I shot a 6 pointer this year with a montec, a complete passthrough, the blood trail was good right from the point of impact to the deer which was 30 yards away. I really like the montecs as they are easy to sharpen and very durable, I gave my old thunderheads away as i wont be needing them any more, they were also very good heads.

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

You also dont have to worry about getting cut on a blade that broke off in a deer

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

I'm on my third year now. I've killed 7 deer, a ram and a goat with them. All nine animals complete pass through and awesome blood trails. The longest an animal traveled was 100 yards - the ram on a too high hit. We trailed him to his bed, krept around and finished him off.

Use a flat stone and follow the sharpening directions - use the leather strip too! I keep a flat stone and leather strip in my bow case and touch up the edge every other trip to the woods.

These heads are extremely tough too - I've hit rocks and trees after the pass through and the heads, after some sharpening, are ready to go - absolutely straight. I've killed three animals with the same arrow and head.

I bought some tekans for fall turkeys this year. They arrived in the mail one afternoon and I shot a turkey at noon the next day - it traveled 15 yards and was done. I'm pretty impressed with them too so far. I use open on impact heads on turkeys - the feathers always open mechs.

Just switched to them this year. I will let you know how the blood trail is after I arrow one. They fly great though.

Just shot a doe with them Friday night. Complete pass through, but no blood. However she fell about 30-40 yards.

I had G5 but then found these Hellfires and there is nothing better than the Hellfires in my opinion....

I was going to use them, but they just didn't want to shoot well for me. I stuck with the Slick Tricks, however alot of the guys at the proshop use them and with very good results. They are certainly tough.

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

Hey, at the risk of sounding like a paid G5 advertisement...ahh who cares. Here you go-

ONE PIECE- no blades to lose
STRAIGHT- spin tested to like +/- .002 = they fly great
RESHARPENABLE- sure, it takes time and some practice, but you can get 'em real sharp w/ the leather
CUT-ON-CONTACT-you gottalove cut on contact
ALL STEEL- c'mon

Blood trails have been very good, though I used Rocket Steelheads one year and the bloodtrail from those really impressed me too. If I have any beef at all w/ the montec's it would be thatwhile they fly straight and true, they are not necessarilly the quietest flying head out there. Shoot 'em.

wow...after reading some of this I've all but made up my mind to get some! I've been debating it since last year, but these definitely sound like a good investment.

here's an add on question--How many of you use the G5 practice heads? Are they worth the extra investment, or is it just easier to stick with plain field tips?

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

I killed 5 deer last year with them, all pass throughsand not one went out of my sight before falling over, fantastic broadhead. I will be using them again this year along with Razorcaps. They are much like the Montecs (can be re-sharpened) only if you do bend a tip you can replace the blades only...cool design. Here is a link:http://www.razorcaps.com/

I also have the Montec practice blades...not really needed but it saves on re-sharpening.

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

I bought a set of these heads, They looked great and then at noon I was getting ready forthe afternoon hunt and the state police stoped in to check our camp out. well I got a ticket as the G-5 broadheads do not meet Oregon standards. according to the officer they are considered barbed. I called BS. but still had to go toi court over it and althou the fine was thown out It was deamed to be a non leagle broadhead for the state of Oregon. page 10of the big game regs defind this as all broad heads must has a rear edge at 90 degrees to the shaft ( now this is why I didn't get the fine) or "greater" this meets the requirement but because it hooks back the barb rule is abserved. SUcks Huh. Now i'll bet 75 % of the warderns out there wouldn't give a rip and would say there fine but I always fine that one who's is haveing a bad day!!!

RE: Who uses G5 Montecs?

I've killed 8 deer with them. The only draw back is they aren't very sharp. In spite of that, everything I killed last year bled well and died fast, except for one deer and I madea horrible shot on her.It still managed to kill her. As Motown said, the Strikers are insanely sharp and so I have switched to them this year. So far, four shots have resulted in two dead does, a dead hog, and a dead raccoon. {:DI got bored} Everything bled like you were pouring it out of a bucket.

Haven't killed a deer with them yet, but they do fly good.

I just shot my first deer with them on Saturday night........They worked great.......The buck went not quite 100 yards, and bled like a stuck hog. We never had to stop to look for blood for more that a couple of seconds in the 100 yards he went........I WAS IMPRESSES!

I love these broadheads. I have killed 4 deer with them and 3 hogs. Everyone was a pass through. They are not the sharpest broadhead on the market, but the are really durable. I have only messed up one G5 after all these years and thats because i missed and hit a rock. It still flies good but the tip isnt sharp enough for deer so i use it for squirrrels.

I've also been considering getting some. I know what I'll ask Santa for Christmas ;)

Don't wait for Santa, go out and get them now, you'll love them. Every deer that I have arrowed have been with Montecs, I wouldn't use anything else.

I tried them. I couldn't get them to fly right, for me (and yes.....my bow is in tune). may be a situation with arrow.....or whatever.....but I've killed 2 deer now with Muzzy 125's.....and they're flying like darts.

Different strokes.....different folks.

Good luck.

Hmmm, that's funny, it was the exact opposite for me w/ the Muzzy's. Just couldn't make 'em fly straight. Strange.

All I can tell you, Steve is.....a friend told me to pack as much weight as I could in my arrow to get the most KE. I switched to a 125g head (Muzzy) and I've never looked back.
