Default so close, yet so far away

I hate my stand....

I'm using a ladder stand that I can only shoot from while seated. Anyway, I had abig tomturkey run by on the ridge of a hill that was about 35 yards away, yet I couldn't get a shot on him because I couldn't pivot my body in a way so that I shoot from the seated position. I was able to pull my bow back but he was just too far to my right to shoot[:@]. To add insult to injury, after the turkey left, I got out of my stand to stalk up on the group he was trying to join with (about 100 yards to the north of my stand) and not more than 5 minutes (and about 30 yards of stalking), I turn around and look at my stand only to find it is surrounded by 6 deer!!!! I tryed (as quickly and stealthfully) cut them off as they headed down the trail next to my stand but they busted me out and took off back to where they came from. Oh well, that's why it's called hunting and not killing......

yup, it's hunting, tough situation. Why is it you can't stand on that stand? Fall turkeys, if you have calls, bust them and call them back, it's magical when the woods come alive with them calling to get back together. Good luck.

The stand is one of those kind of cheapo ladder stands (it cost 70 bucks from Cablelas) and the platform is so small that I don't feel comfortable standing on it at all (it doesn't even have any kind of surrounding bar system on it at all, just a platform and a seat).

You would be proud though, I didn't have any turkey call's on me and I was able to mimic a turkey call well enough with my own voice that I turned that Tom around so that he came by me for a second pass (even though he never got to an angle that I could shoot).
