Fianally get a deer in w/son and blow it!!!
Took my son out with me tonight. I sat on the ground in an area that has had pretty good activity neighbor shot 9pt fri. We weathered the constant rain in western Ny and with approx 20 min of shooting light left a deer crossed about 150yds out. We both thought he had entered the woods and kinda let our guard down when here he comes on dead run. At 25yds he stops and works a scrape and licking branch. Son is coming unglued I can literally hear him breathing in gasps. He turns broadside and looks behind him I settle the pin and whisper here goes kid. As soon as I squeezed the release I knew there was trouble my whole body lurched forward and the lumenock flys about 1ft above his neck. He knows somethings up and walks into woods before I can renock another arrow. This a fairly good 7ptwe had seen several times by the way. I look down and button is gone and camo is ripped, was warm and unbuttonedmy shirt and it got caught up in bow string during release. I laughed so hard my son didn't get it I just muttered itsbowhunting someday you will. All in all what a great night an up close and personal lesson of what not to do. Hey thats one more lesson than I had when I started!

ouchhh that stinks..but you got your sons blood flowing...and yours too i bet. always a learning expirience. i dont care if you 150ys old your going to keep learning or you aint hunting! details will kill us every time.....good luck gettin him!! couple years for now youll overhear your son telling his buddys the story. "ya my dads such an idiot! one time he went to shoot a buck with his bow and ripped his shirt off and missed the deer...THEN! he laughed about it!" still sounds like a good day in my book. its days like that that you and him will never forget

Taking an animal is great, but being together and sharing the hunt as you did is what counts. Finding out that you don't always have success is a very healthy perspective, and that going home empty handed is not a measure is success. Especially when you kid is grinning up at you.
Good luck and Good hunting God Bless |
