Pin cushioned one
Well I got my first shot the season today andI hit her at the base of the neck andshe dropped to the graound and startedmoaning. So putanother arrow in and shot again, as soon as i shot she flopped and the arrow hit her in the opposite leg. I waited she flopped around some more and shot a 3rd arrow, and again she flopped and I caught her int he should but it went through to the neck. She only lasted about another 2 minutes after that.
What a great wet, soggy morning. Now for a buck!!! |
RE: Pin cushioned one
You may want to consider using a larger quiver ?
:-) |
RE: Pin cushioned one
Ordon't take neck shots?
|
RE: Pin cushioned one
Well, at least the meat is well tenderized :D
Hopefully not too much meat was damaged beyond useable. |
RE: Pin cushioned one
Now that's why everyone says not to shoot at a moving target!!!
haha, just kidding! Would have done the same thing in your situation--now where's the picture? |
RE: Pin cushioned one
My mother taught me if I don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Oops.

RE: Pin cushioned one
Congratulations on the deer!!!!!!

RE: Pin cushioned one
WHY WHY WHY WHY are so many people on her so obsesses with shooting deer in the neck especially with a bow. this is NOT a killing shot!!!! Nor is it considered a kill zone!!!! Get it right people. Unethical shots should not be attempted or even though of. Next time do it right!!!!
Here is the killzone in PINK &RED!!!!!!!! HEART and LUNGS!!!!!! ![]() |

RE: Pin cushioned one
hey wis bow , before jumping down someones throat , maybe you could have asked if he was aiming for the neck. I do agree that a neck shot is not a good choice with a bow especially. But maybe the deer turned , or made some movement on the shot you know? or perhaps an arrow deflection or hitting his sleeve with the string. Im not trying to start anything , but perhaps it wasnt on purpose.

wesmac68....do you still hear the moaning???
|
RE: Pin cushioned one
Thanks for the defense guys. I did not mean to shoot it in the neck nor was I aiming for the neck. I was aiming for vitals and forgot that she was only 10 yards and not 20. I must have had my wrist cocked as well. I admit it was not my best shot.
I am sorry I am not as perfect as youWis bow hunter, I am sure that you have never missed or had a bad shot. Why don't you down load pics of all your great and perfectly placed shots so we can see them? As far as the meat goes everything but the neck and probably one front shoulder will be good. |
RE: Pin cushioned one

Yep, I had a similar situation when I had a buck duck at the shot and I spined him. I ended up emptying my quiver before clipping the femoral artery as he flopped around on the ground. Not something I'd like to repeat, but it did get the job done and the tracking was short.

RE: Pin cushioned one
Way to go there, wesmac68. Venison in the freezer!
As I was reading through the replys, I kinda figgered he wasn't aiming there, either. But it sure reminded me of another bad hit that turned out OK. A friend had patterened deer that were moving from feed to bed every moring across a road into a swampy area. The only tree he could find to put his hang on stand was a smallish poplar tree in the ditch beside the road. He hung it there pre-dawn and waited for the deer to come. As he waitied, the tree began to slooooowly bend toward the road. He tried shifting his weight the other way, but it kept sloooowly bending . By the time the deer came across the road, he was nearly out OVER the road, and hanging at a really wierd angle. But there were the deer, so he drew and shot, hitting the lead doe . . . .... right in the eye. She went down, he managed to get down, and that's the end of that story. |
RE: Pin cushioned one
Accidental shot but the deer was recovered, better than a gut shot and a lost deer.Congrats.

RE: Pin cushioned one
Least you dropped here and not wounded her. She will taste great.

RE: Pin cushioned one
In the neck,, interesting shot choice. :D Lucky she ducked the way she did and was able to be put down quick. Now go get that buck.

Yep, I had a similar situation when I had a buck duck at the shot and I spined him. I ended up emptying my quiver before clipping the femoral artery as he flopped around on the ground. Did you empty the quiver while still in the stand? I spined a doe once and she dropped in her tracks but was spinning in circles on the ground using her rear legs (front legs were not working). I decided the best thing to do was to climb down, attempt to sneak up behind her, and put a lethal shot into her vitals. I did so, and although it was strange to see her lying there looking at me approach her, I still only fired one more arrow to finish her off (didn't empty my quiver). Looking back on the experience, I believe that my decision to approach her and finish her off quickly was the right idea (ethically). I could tell she wasn't going to go anywhere, half her body was paralyzed. I don't want to sound as if I'm preaching, I just want to share my experiences in the hopes that someone may be listening and agree that sometimes there may be another option!! Good luck everyone! |
