RE: Hunting in the rain (VERY BAD EXPERIENCE)

Hey i posted a note here about hunting in the rain, everyone told me that the deer move alot, so i decided to go. Sure enough about 6 oclock, it wasn't raining but still dripping from the trees, a nice buck come walking in and i took a shot at 10 yards. I thought i hit perfect saw the arrow go in right behind the front shoulder. I watched him run and stop about 20 yards away, and he began walking away. He got to about 50 yards and then started running again. I searched for blood and found a really good trail, but when i got to the point where i believe he started running, i found no blood, and with all the rain it was washing away. I lost the trail completely, and after spending an hour looking for the trail to continue, i decided since it was a good hit, and i did have a lot of blood that he couldn't of gone too far and was going to search for him in the morning. So i spent all day searching the woods well for about 200-300 yards away from the last spot i saw him aside of some thick slashing behind me, which would mean he woulda ran a complete circle around me into them. I'm going to check there tonight, i'll keep everyone posted, if you have any suggestions please post them, thanx.

I'll have to keep that in mind, hopefully if I take a shot, the deer won't go more than 50 yards or so......

Ok let s take a look here

Sure enough about 6 oclock, it wasn't raining but still dripping from the trees
Was not raining, did it start again?

and with all the rain it was washing away
Sorry but rain dripping from the trees will not wash blood away. If you hit him where you said you did the bucks is dead. I have not seen a double lung deer run over 80 yds, but that does not mean it can not happen. I am just amazed on how many "I hit right behind the shoulder" deer are not fond.

From the last spot you fond blood do a grid search, can some buddiescome and help you. Where do you live?If it is in MI I will come help you!!

Second I make it a rule, If I do not see the deer go down I stay in my tree for 2 hours no matter where I hit him.

Good luck I hope you find him.

Same thing happend to my borther in law a few years back--they found the buck the next day about 500 yards from the shot point. so dont be afraid to check a little farther than you think. He will probably take the easitest path and as everyone says go to water--if there is any. You will find him if you had great blood that soon, he may have just plaugged the hole somehow. He will be there

Good luck and look forward to the pics!

this brings me another point that i always try to do....if hit ran 50 yards, was there any way you could get another shot at him.....no matter what, when I have another shot at a deer, I take it. The deer were moving though......right after it stops raining is perfect

You hit liverand at if your lucky, one lung, my friend. I bet his back was arched up a little when he was walking wasn't it.

That deer needed several hours at least and no wet conditions to be found. Even if it isn't raining, if the ground is wet, it's gonna be very very hard to find a deer that isn't bleeding profusly.

I'm sure he's dead.

If you hunt the rain...You gotta make the shot perfect, so he falls in sight. Otherwise, depending on the terrain you hunt... You may never find him.

Oh yeah, and we all have an obligation to finish what we started.. So don't give up and come back for advice if needed... Make sure your marking the blood trail with TP so you can see if he crosses his own trail and 'cause rain wont wash tp away
