First hunt with my daughter

This last Saturday was my first hunt ever taking my 9 year old daughter. We were hunting doe for deer management purposes. We didn't get a doe but we had a great time and saw a lot of wildlife. On our way we saw a coyote on a point over looking a river and stopped and she looked at it with her binoculars and took a picture. We saw a lot of hawks and eagle and even an armadillo in a field nosing around. We also saw a doe running along side the car when we were touring the land. A friend let us hunt on his land and it was beautiful. Rolling hills, ponds, woods, it had a mixture of everything.
We pulled in at 10a to give the morning hunters a chance to finish up. There were 3 people bow hunting that morning. We pulled up to the house and a 4-wheeler was pulling up with 2 nice doe on the back. My daughter got some pictures and the blood didn't bother her at all.
One of the guys had a big black dog that loved my daughter and hung out with her for a while. Everyone took a break from the morning hunt and then we finally got the blind set up around 1p and we put it right where one of the does was taken that morning. We got in the blind about 2p and literally about 5 minutes after we got in we heard a deer just down the hill from us but it never came up. Over the next several hours we heard many deer within about 100 yards from us and one doe came real close, about 30-40 yards but we could only see about 20 yards out of the blind and we never saw her. She must have caught our scent because she blew at us and took off. It was great though to have one come that close for my daughter.
We had a great time though and she used about 2 roles of film on our day together (I'll post some later). We left the house at 8a and got home at 9p. It was a great first hunt together.

Sounds like a day you'll always remember, my daughters are still too young for an all day adventure like that but my oldest sure likes to take up a blood trail with dad. Good luck in all your future endeavors with your children.

Awesome experience! I'm glad she had a memorable and enjoyable experience with Daddy and nature!

My kids, 7 and 4 (almost 5), both have a passion for hunting as well, eventhough they haven't started yet.

Here they are with Daddy and his 5 pt. shot a week and a half ago.

Can't wait for her pics!
