The most interesting part of MY season so far......

Yeah it's safe to say it's been a slow season.........:D
I wanted to show you guys a little discovery I made yesterday while messing around with my broadheads AGAIN.
I'll post a couple pics and some ofyou might find this interesting (either that or I'm the only nature loving dork on here;))

So here's a close up picture of my large McKenzie 3D target at the end of my yard........ordinary enough 3D target right?

RE: The most interesting part of MY season so far......

Anyone want to venture a guess on what little creature decided to make a nice foam home out of my 3D target?:D
I know the exact animal that did it and will post it a little later on after I get some guesses.

I know exactly what it is because I've seen it over the last week or so but never put 2 and 2 together until i was shooting yesterday and noticed the hole. (I'm pretty observant like that:D) That and I snuck out last night around midnight with a flashlight and saw the little bugger snoozing......

Oh and just for giggles heres a view of my backyard shooting range, this is from about 60 yards away of the lower part of my back yard. I can get a little over 60 yards across and about 40 from my deck up off to the right out of view.
For you poor souls who don't have a backyard to shoot in?.........see ya wouldn't wanna be ya![8D];)

Well I have an exact hole like that in just about the same spot on my deer target too. I thought mine was from a chipmunk.

My first thought was woodpecker... except in this case, he wouldn't be a woodpecker; he'd be a foampecker.

Just for the record don't get too excited.......it's notEl Chupacabra, a Vampire Bat, Bigfoot or Elvis.

It's a little more ordinary than that but some good guesses. The problem is that I'm going to need to keep the stinkin target outside all winter now!
I'd feel to bad about ruining all the hard work and think of the next poor deer that this animal tries to make a home out of! [:-]That's pretty gutsy don't ya think? "Hmmmmmmm, well he HASN'T moved for quite some time......I wonder?":D

I'll reveal the little dude shortly.

Eh, fooey! I could have said Downy since I knew the hole was too small for a Pileated... I call "fowl"... Get it, talking about birds... fowl... foul... uh, never mind. :)

No........I'm going to send you the stupid woodpecker so you can take care of him all winter. Maybe next spring a Bluebird will take over and I'll be a bonafide birdwatching dork.
I guess my recurve shooting is on hold anyway.;)

I watched that littleSOB out there crawling around, pecking a little here and there and thought..."Well that's pretty neat, a woodpecker keeps landing on my 3D target" (I'm a slow learner )

Big John,
Actually I just had some Rogies 2 days ago........smothered in butter and onions then pan fried. With a side of Antelope steak. Whoa nelly.[:-]

The moral of the story and what I want to know is, at what point does a woodpecker decide a deer has stood around long enough that he's going to try and make a home in it's neck?:D

He he... Oh yeah, I know all about that little sucker... Would you believe it's one of the only birds I was never able to kill with my BB gun? It became the "holy grail" of birds I was after during my very early teenage years.

I had to go back thru and search for this post to find the answer. I have tons of downy's that come to my feeders and stuff. I'm glad you helped me solve my mystery too.
