Another IL buck stuck (Updated)

Well guys I got mine last night and my brother-in-law (22 series on Huntingnet) stuck his this morning about 10:00. He felt like he has a good hit. We found good bright red blood about 15 yards from Point of impact. We also found the arrow it had about 6 or 7 inches broken off thatis still inside the animal. We believe he hit the front shoulder due to the way the deer acted upon impact. We have backed out and gonna give him a few hours then go back. What do you think is the possibility of finding him. Hopefully will be posting pictures later on in the day.

Sounds like you guys are off to a pretty good start. How was the blood trail you located, easy to follow or sparse? Take your time and stay optimistic, sounds like it shouldn't be too hard to locate him. Post your successful pics.

Did he not see the arrow hit the deer? How far was the shot? What was the shot angle? Broad side? Quartering away? Give us some more info. You did the right thing backing off and giving him some time if your not sure of the hit.

He was broadside about 20 yards think i hit shoulder. Blood trail is pretty good we only tracked it about 20-25 yards then we backed out. I was shooting through some small twigs and a few leaves.

If the blood trail is good for the first 25-30 yards I would say you should be able to find him.

Looked all day yesterday with no luck it rained all day and we had no blood trail. Went back out looking this morning and jumped him out of his bed. We seen the that the arrow had struck very high on the shoulder right under his backbone. He seemed to be limping a little and probably a little stiff but seemed to be pretty healthy as he trotted out of range and then begin to walk off. There was no blood in the bed that we jumped him from. Unfortanately it wasn't the outcome we had hoped for but at least its the next best thing. We both believe he will heal and live another day. It had been about 23 or 24 hours after the shot when we jumped him up.
