October Lull case study closed.
For the last 3-4 years I have been doing a case study on the "October Lull". It seems to always follow one week after the full moon in October and lasts about 4-6 days thereafter. We are in it now in Wi and many other areas in this region. Although it may be hard to hunt the Lull, it is possible though most of the mature bucks are active after dark, they still move during daylight hours. I have found the best time to hunt the lull is between 10am and 3pm if at all possible. The lull is pretty much a resting point so the deer can build up the fat resources needed to make it though the rut and through the winter, after 4-6 days from the beginning of the lull the bucks will go into a good pre-rut routine, making more scrapes, rubs, seeking and some chasing.According to my recent studies these past few years, if my calculations are correct, this Thursday shoudl be a good start to the end of the lull. Get out there and hunt like you mean it.

That's interesting. Do you have an average week or dates that you have noticed in your studies? I know that in may area (eastern PA/NJ) that I have had some of my best hunting during times that would be considered the lull.

What I find is that deer move less during the day while the moon is full. I agree that this coming weekend will be a boomer. Can't wait.

Alot of my studies were conducted from the last week in Sept through the 3rd week in Oct. Every region is different for times of the lull. You may have had yours earlier, or may have yours laterthan we do in Upper Midwest states such as Wi, Iowa, Minn, Mich, and Ill. You can easilly do your own studie on when your Lull hits compared to others. Its simple if you have the time. Good luck this year and be safe.

Though I agree I had a very nice 3 year old 120ish 8 pointer walk under me yesterday. NW Wisconsin. I saw him at 7:30 yesterday morning with 4 does and another 2 year old buck. That was the exception in my experience also.

I don't know that it applies where I am. I have been seeing a lot of movement between 7-9AM over the past few days.
