Bedded Near Scrape

Today I saw two doe bedded not more than 15yrds from a fairly fresh scrape. Was this just coincidental or could they be nearing estrus?

Coincidence. But it won't be long...actually here in PA there could be a very good chance that there a few doe in estrous, somewhere, early and late breedings have taken place for years but fortunately or unfortunately depending on your situation, doe numbers are down and they should be inline with the peak rut times, it could happen from now on tho. Having they two bedded close was probably nothing more than coincidence but I'd say that's a good spot, security to bed and a scrape to boot. Hang a stand.

Atta boy, it's only a matter of time until the big'un shows up. It's getting more interesting everyday.

RE: Bedded Near Scrape

I'm seeing nothing as far as pre-rut activity in my area. I went out on a limb today and made a mock scrape near my stand, complete with licking branch and then emptied my bladder in it. I've heard guys here say that even human urine works, that deer cannot tell the difference.
I'm not hunting that spot for awhile so I will see if anything visits the scrape. If it is covered in leaves when I return, I will know.
I'll report on my findings.
The stand isn't working out like I had hoped so I am hunting elsewhere for awhile.

RE: Bedded Near Scrape

im excited to hunt my scrape at school. hunt the active scrape dripper wed in a rain storm. rained all day...perfect to wash away my scent even though i soaked down and showered before hanging it. one week there was some rubs started and a little hint of a scrape starting. the next week i found 3 more scrapes and the rubbing is getting heavier. think i found his bed too. i hung the dripper because i think hed be HARD to kill without it. figured it cant hurt..and should only help. he beds not about 100yds away if its him i seen sneaking out of the backdoor of the bed. could been a doe..i dont know for sure but its dead downwind of the scrapes...if it wasnt nasty out that day i woulda stayed and seen if he caught a hint of the dripper. man i bet its driving him nuts. hunting him tuesday evening and wed morning i think. i wanna hunt like a TV hunt. climb up the tree..hit the can a couple times and the grunt call..maybe tickle the rattling antlers together and he comes busting in there..and there i am..20foot above him..10yds away..razor sharp muzzy sent through the lungs.....im excited...just hope i aint let down..i know its a bittt early..but we will see what happens. he thinks a hot doe and another buck are using his scrape right now..i wont be surprised to find the area tore up..

my buddy had a basket 8pt come in today at 10am. he had doe urine on a whick hanging in a tree..buck came in nose in the air and walked straight to it..though a 1.5yr old buck and probably more curious then anything it wont be long...wont be long. the next 2 weeks is when i usually see alot of bucks..while doe hunting with the flinter and then fall turkey hunting..hope my streak continues now that im bowhunting:eek:
