Coyotes got to the doe before I did..

Shot a doe backed out to let her lay a while. Drove an hour round trip to get the ATV. When I get to her, her shoulder and part of her ribs had been eaten while I was gone. I took her and gutted, hung, etc.. but is it safe to eat the remaining meat. OF course I will cut all the shouder and ribs out and anything that look like it has even been touched. Question is can I eat the other 3/4 of the doe?

I don't know if I would or not. I don't have an scientific evidence to support my views or anything, it just something that I wouldn't do. Now with that said, if I was desolate, stranded and starving, then that's a no brainer....

I had something like that happen to me once. I shot a doe a few minutes before last light..i hit her a little far back so we waited til morning... we picked up the trail and found her 70yds away...only problem was that coyotes devoured her only hide and ribs left...so i didn't have the meat problem that you have....if they took meat from the front shoulder..i would think the hind quarters should be fine.

I would scrap it. No telling where they nibbled, slobbered, etc. on. It is unfortuniate that they beat you there but I would play it safe than sorry

No way in the world I would eat that meat. Who knows what kind of germs have spread through that meat.

It happened to me too. Two years ago. I would still eat it. I think you'd be nuts to throw it out. Just cut away anything that isn't covered with skin.

happened to me once. I took the deer home, butchered it and ate it. no problems since then. Although I do find myself scratching behind my ears with my feet sometimes.
