Will the rut start early because of weather?

RE: Will the rut start early because of weather?
The rut is dependant on the photoperiod, or the amount of light that reaches a deers eyes. It has nothing to do with the weather.
The rut will be pretty close to the same time as last year.

I think that perhaps maybe for the bucks it might start the chasing and fighting a little sooner. And for the young bucks definatley , it seems that the first real cold spell with frost in october always gets the young guns going. Atleast that is how it is here in PA , it all depends though on your state and how the deer act. But i think the cold weather may get the bucks goin a week or so early , but no matter what , the does are on a cycle , so they wont be affected

Well the reason for asking is because my buddy shot a nice buck, and his neck has already began to swell, and rumor has it that the bucks over where I hunt are aready chasing does around. However, because the does have not began their "cycle" yet, i dont know, there are mixed feelings on this... ??? I dont know, just an interesting topic I think.

Campo I agree.
Now daylightobservations/evidence by us hunters..of deer rutting behavior can be swayed by weather conditions..simply put the photoperiod triggers doe estrus annually, weatherconditions on the other handgets them on their feet during daylight hours for us hunters to witness...many times do to poor hunting weather conditions, deer are rutting like crazy..just after dark...
Does the MOON light affect the photoperiod (amount of light in a day) enough to pull the rut or trigger it ealier or later... Debate that until the end of time... Charlie A... does a lot of research on this..

Here in SC, I've already seen SOME rut activity. Also a buddy of mine killed a buck that was in rut.

Without a testosterone test, I would not trust any mere observation.
