sliders?
does anyone HUNT with a sliding single pin sight??? i want to get better sights for next year and like the idea of a single pin on a slider. maybe even a pendulum that locks and can be used stationary on a slider..but i want to get into 3d next year a little bit and see how i do..but how good or bad are sliders?? practical for hunting or no?? figure if i leave it on 20yds ill be prettty covered for hunting from 5-20. if i see one coming and know itll be 25 or whatever how hard is it to adjust?? too hard? just curious and looking at my options for next year...also...how are HHA, Cobra, and Truglo sights?? i have truglo extreme 5pin now..i like it but dont like plastic. and dont like .29 pins..definently going with .19 but all the gear will goto good use...ill set up the old bear bruin in the garage up..hopefully dad will put a sting on it and buy a couple arrows for it and shoot it. ill be doing a serious bow make over...sights..string..arrows..rest..probably stabilzer..it should be a SWEEEEET shooter next year

RE: sliders?
I have the HHA XL-5000 and would recommend it to anyone. It is very bright in low light conditions, very easy to adjust, very sturdy, among other benefits. Once you have the marks you can slide the sight to the necessary yardage and shoot it without tightening it back down and worrying about noise. The only negative thing I can think of is if you 3D shoot the sight sometimes forms a halo effect in very sunny situations but you can still make out the target.

RE: sliders?
thanx for the recomendation..i was looking at that or the 5500(5519 for the 19pins..) im stuck between them...or vital bow gears "star track" they put 6 FO pins on the slider where the normal yardages are taped off or marked..plus instead of just a pin theres a FO pin...line up the 2 FO dots..put the FO pin on the target and your in business..i think i might go with the vital bow gear..kinda pricey..but i think that would make for an awesome sight thats simple easy to use...i rather have that then a 6 pin sight! 5 pins is too many to me...but i do wanna practice pretty far away next year...i dont know..i like the idea of the vital bow gear though..i stumbled upon that in my search...but HHAs look like they are good quality..

RE: sliders?
Yep. Vital Gear StarTrack. It's been golden twice this season. I will never shoot a multiple pin sight again.

RE: sliders?
mo...hows the quality and construction of the star track?? the reason i dont like the truglo i got now is its kinda cheesy..plastic..soft metal etc..i need something that will last and not worry about other then checking the screws once in a while..heck my truglos will strip out pretty easy i think..also.....how far can you adjust?? whats your farthest yardage if you maxed the last pin out? you have any idea? id like to get ATLEAST 50yds. but 60-75 sounds better. if i can shoot a group that far ill be busting arrows closer..just want to beable to shoot to 50+ in the summer. thanx for the info...i really think thats what ill go with.
one last question....how easy is it to "slide"?? say i got a deer coming in. i left it at 20..the deers going to go through my lane at 35yds and itll be a perfect shot..will i beable to slide it easily and quickly and go undetected?? thanx alot..just wanna make the right choice when its time to buy..itll be a while but im going to make a list of everything i want and buy it all here and there when i got extra cash so its not like im spending 500$ at once..though ACCs, new string, drop away, and sights ill be about 500$..just doesnt sting as bad if i spread it out from after this season-next season |
RE: sliders?
I'm a 1 pin shooter and have been or years. I cannot for thr life of me shoot multiple pins, it's just too darn cluttered and confusing. First of all what kind of bow do you shoot and what is your speed?
On my bow, which granted is shooting over 300fps I have my pin seat dead nuts on at 25 yards and I can shoot out to 40 with little compensation. I can shoot to 35 with no compensation whatsoever. So in that case. I never have to move my pin under normal circumstances. If your not shooting as fast as I am I would still recommend sighting it in at 25 and you should have no problems to at least 30 yards. For me my personal limitation on a deer is 30-35 yards anyway so it works perfectly for me. Vital Gear makes a great slider sight. I actually have a Vital Gear Pro slide in .019 that I need to sell as I changed sights this year. I have both a red and a green scope for it and it already has the black light on it as well. PM me and we'll see if we can work out a deal if your interested. |
RE: sliders?
I have an hha model and I love it. I will also tell the customer service at hha is top notch. I broke a piece off my sight and with no questions ask te had a new sight there with in a week. I love the slide action to. It is easy to adjust and pretty durable.

RE: sliders?
mike that sounds like the way i wanna do it..but like the idea for 3d and target of being able to just slide it. im only shooting about 260fps right now..but hopefully i can be at around 270ish next year. new string should help..and im going to max the poundage. no reason why i SHOULDNT..so that should help a litttttle. im not looking to buy anytime soon. seasons open..im busy...working and going to college full time..just dont have the time or cash right now..but thanx for the offer..i really kinda like the star track idea too..that would make life easy in hunting situations. easier to see then lines and numbers..still have to memorieze the "pin" settings..but id like that more then having 5 pins glowing in your face like a big blurr..thats why i wanna get away from multipins..
copper..thanx for the info..still stuck between hha and vital bow gear. hopefully when shopping time comes i can find a shop that has both and see what i like.. |

RE: sliders?
Mike, I'm with you on this one. I just cannot shoot multiple pin sights. The pin gap is just so small, it looks like one giant pin! I hate it.
I leave mine set on 25 yards as well. I shoot 1" high at 20 and 1" low at 30. Don't get much better than that. |
RE: sliders?
mo...thats awesome..thanks for taking the time to take the pics and answer my questions. you should be a spokesmen for VBG!! im sold!! cabelas has it for 130..though they list it for 154 on their site. either way i think its worth it. sure a little steep but itll go from bow to bow with me and last a good long while. i dont have much of a problem shooting multipin sights..but at 15,25,35 etc your right...its one big pin. 15-55yds is probably an inch gap if that much. i think a single pin will make me more accurate..excepecially with the bad eyes.......thanx alot..

RE: sliders?
Dude, I only WISH I was on staff w/ VBG.....I have no problem endorsing a product I like though, and was glad to help. If Cabela's has it for 130 you best grab it up if you've decided on that one. That's damn cheap for that sight. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask. I think you are really going to enjoy it. I just love mine.
