Tracking Help
Heres the deal, long story short. My dad shot a deer today, but couldn't find it. He said it was a solid lung shot. I'm going with him tomorrow to help him look for it. The problem is it is raining now and I'm pretty sure it will wash away the blood trail. Any advice on how to track the animal?

RE: Tracking Help
You got your job cut out for you buddy if itrains for a long time , I hope you or your dad marked the spot where it was shot.
When you start off tomarow look for any kind of tracks or hair , anything that would tell you where the deer was hit. Depending on the area you should look at the tall grass , see if it leans to one side or if there is a trail into it. In thick brush try to look for broken branches and bent limbs , if you know theres a water source near by check it out even known bedding areas. There gonna hide where they feel safe so really look in the thick stuff even if you have to get on your hands and knees to go under it , if you see tracks or any sign that the deer went in that direction then follow it. I hope you and your dad the best of luck and if you can getmore friends or family to help, the better your chances are. |

RE: Tracking Help
I must admit, I am pretty mad at my dad. He later told me he didn't look that long. Only about an 1.5 hours. And I don't think he really wants to look for it....Its just like, he just gave up. I pretty much told me unless he goes out and helps me look for the deer I won't go out with him during rifle season. Do any of you think I went to far when I said that?

RE: Tracking Help
Not at all , you should be able to tell your dad how you feel after all a good line of comunication is one of the strongest foundations for any relationship.
I'm sure your dad will understand your opinions and he'll respect you for it , as for that deer did you have any luck on finding it ? It would be to bad if you and your dad didn't try or couldn't find it. |
RE: Tracking Help
Probably be proud of the fine individual you turned out to be!:DI always find it easier to track the tough one with another set of eyes.
