Good ol' Louis L'Amour Westerns. They fit easily into the leg pocket of my camo pants, they are light, they don't require any deep thought, and if you lose your page, so what. Start over. You can stay in tune to your surroundings with your ears and your brain, and still pass the time until the crunch, crunch, crunch.

I take excellent 20-30 sec naps throughout the entire day.

LMAO, I think about every sexual encounter I've ever had...then after that ten seconds is up...I try to find something else to do, LOL.

On the weekends I bring a small radio with an earbud. I listen to the various sporting events that are going on. I could never read a book or play a game. Had too many deer try to slip by that I couldn't hear and if I hadn't caught a movement I would have never seen them.

I think about life &everything in it. I think about the good things, bad things, and especially themainpoints of life, thatI'm thankful for. Hunting is a great way for me to concentrate and think of things I normally don't think about.

Of course, once I see a deer, it's all about hunting though.

LOL @ Ghermy!

I sat last night and thought about this topic! I was thinking, what do I *really* think about when I'm out here!

Most of the time I find myself saying, "Deer, or DEER!!! Where are you, don't you want to come out and play?" Seriously, most of my thoughts are about what looks like a deer in the set aside field. Half of the time I find myself staring at something, thinking it's a deer, only to find out it's a bunch of weeds swaying in the breeze. It's sooooo hard to pick out the deer in those tall weeds, they could walk 40 yards in front of me and I'd never see 'em half the time! I laughed at myself last night because I notice the exact same "deer weeds" everytime I'm out, so last night, I just started calling them deer. LOL I said, Oh look, that deer hasn't moved in a week! Then I literally started counting the "deer weeds" out there, just because I had nothing better to do! People can get so corny sometimes.

I also am paranoid now that I'm gonna miss one coming through the woods behind me, due to Sunday's hunt. Dang buck snuck up behind me, no snaps, no crunches... heard one lil' crunch, looked to see if it was the elusive ground hog I've been trying to arrow for three years now... nope. It was a deer! Sheesh... he was one step past my shooting lane at about 10-15 yards. I coulda shot at his hindquarters, but it wouldn't have done me any good. So now I hear a leaf fall from a tree and I'm turning around...

Well I did some things that various other people have already said and when I did them deer came. I first got to my stand at 6:30 and fell asleep but was awaken to a branch break behind me. sure enough, a small 8 pt. was making a rub on a tree 5 yards behind my stand. Then I was playing a game on my phone and a doe just appeared out of no where when I looked up. Needless to say I didn't do anything else that day but enjoy natures television. I did see a groundhog fall down a tree. That was a first!

From what I am reading all you people have found the key to Deer hunting. I am not seeing any deer just siting here without a distraction so I am going to try reading or playing a handheld game or even sleep. Then maybe I will get to see a deer. LOL.
Anyone ever get so tired of those damn squirils & chipmunks makeing all that noise that you dont know if you could hear a deer walk up or be able to tell the difference.LOL
