They will cough loudly when hit some times, either if they hav'nt been hit particularly well or as they are expiring.

My first buck was only a 1 lung hit - it coughed an unmistakeabledeath cough for about 40 minutes before expiring. (BTW this sound attracted 2 large bucks to the downed deer)

But it sounds to me like you got busted!
Either that or you found a deer with a serious chest cold.

Bucks will make all types of grunts, snorts coughsand bleats. That metallic noise could possiblely be an arrow sticking out of it slambbing into the sides of trees and bushes, or even a long tined buck going through the trees may give the impression that it sounds like metal. Dunno.

i have no idea as for the metal sound , but i have heard deer cough and sneeze even under my stand , it sounds just like a dog when it tries to cough up some dry dogfood , or when a dog sneezes. but if it was multiple times , id agree w mauser and say u got busted , but who knows , the woods r a mysterious place sometimes...
