You also exhibited good judgement in backing out and going back a couple hours later to find him.
Too many people rush into the recovering, pushing the deer and then do not find them.

well guys, i just laid out some steaks from this deer :DIm saving the tenderloins for a little while. i can't wait for tommorow so i can fix them

Congrats man, Glad you got your first, I also just shot my first about 2 weeks ago. And it too was a button buck. But to me theres nothin wrong with it. espeacialy with a bow and being your first.
Now when you go out you will feel ten times more confident. And it will seem alot easier too. Like it aint gonna be no easier but will just feel like it. that first one is hard. Like me i hunted 2 full seasons with out gettin one then i shot a BB on the second saturday of the season this year then just this past thursday i shot a nice 11 point buck. Could not belive it. and im really glad i had shot that button buck first. Because i know if that buck would have been my first i would have blew it. Like when he came up i was feelin so confident and when i saw my pin was right behind the shoulder i let er fly, he went a total of about 50 yds. after falling 2 other times.
So congrats again!!!
